What to do, What to do?????
« on: December 02, 2010, 12:44:23 PM »
I will be having a chance to get a new handi when my Estate check (my sister past 2 years ago and the checks should be released soon) comes to me. In Sis's will, she specifically told me to go buy a boy toy. Now you know why I miss Sis :) My problem is---do I want a .45LC, a .444 or a 45-70BC????? I do have a Martini in 45-70 that is not stocked yet, so I'm leaning on removing it from the list. Living in Indiana, maybe I should add the .357maggie to the list instead of the 45-70. I DO like big boolits, but pistol calibers are nice for the rifle hunts in Indiana. OH THE STRESS OF DECISION. What to do, What to do?? Maybe Quicktoodo could tell me what to do ::) ::) ;D  HELP, I need HELP.

More shooting is more fun (to me) than reloading, etc.; I keep heading towards the easy to reload with carbide die pistol calibers. That Mag rechambered to Max would be a nice sized compliment to your 45-70 Martini (shaken, not stirred?), and still big enough to be an easy to handle cartridge (old, cold, stiff fingers).
The .45Colt has many of the same virtues and the BC carbine is a good looking package.

Yup, get em all, but start with the 45 Colt BC Carbine while you can still get em for less than $250 shipped from CDNN, page 61 in their new catalog.  ;)

.45 LC B.C. rechamber to .454 if the cartrage length gets past to 1.80 then reamer some more to .460

You could do worse than buy a 45 colt.  Take a road trip and hit every Cabela's and GM you and put 444 and 45C on hold then decide.  But 45 Colt still is hard to beat. Buy it first and then all the other really buys/deals will  show up in triplicate ;D

Aahh, yes I can see that is the case. :D Been thunkin and thunkin on it and I thimk I haz de ansoor. I have a .45LC in a Ruger Redhawk so that would be the cats Beller (heck with Meows) to go with a handi in .45LC. At the same time It would have to have a little brother (am I hearing .357maggie?) to go along with my Taurus .357 pistol, 3in. (good for close quarters if the deer should counter-attack, you know). Then after I get to play with them for a while, Why I could ream 'em out to maxies.  Ok, then after a few months (I have to buy molds and stuff, you know) then I could buy the .444 to span the gap between the .357 and the .45LC. Always did like those longer cartridge Boolits, ya know? ::) Easier for old Senile hands to hold. However many I get and whenever, I DEFINITIVELY have to get lace on leather butt pads--purty ones,ya know ::) ;D  Thanks for all the replies, guys. You get to wanting and wanting so much sometimes that it can get confusing. Now, I know, you guys wouldn't lead me down the path of another addiction, so I just have to take all this wonderful advice and follow it. :D ;D ::) ::) ::). God Bless to all.

ETA: just was hit with a horrid thought. I, maybe, ought to get 2 .357 handi's? if I ream one out to a maxie, I wouldn't have interchangeability with my Ruger. That's not permissible. Can't take big brother away from little brother!!!

Glad to see youve got it narrowed down........
FWIW, Id probably go withthe 444 if I had a 44Spl or Mag revolver, but me with a 45Colt revolver the BC carbine is it for sure as a companion, Same way with a 38/357M, of course. Then too, your 45-70 IS your big-bore, but until that Martini (cool rifles, I have some BSA 'miniatures') is done you maybe should get the H&R ???
Are you stocking that Martini in the classic British sporting rifle style?

gcrank1: I believe that you have hit the nail on the head. though, in all honesty, I believe that I would leave the 45-70 until last (inasmuch as I have one already.) and get the .45LCBC first. ALONG with the .357. On thinking on all this, though, I probably need 2 .45Bc's--one to be big brother to the .45 Ruger and one to chamber to maxi. As for the Martini (shaken, of course :) ) what I really want to do is stock with a really nice piece of walnut and try to do a classic style with egg shell finish. Put a lot of love into the old lady and then Make sure that my grandson gets it, after I shoot it a 'little bit' just to make sure it is "safe". :D ;D ::) ::) God Bless to all.
