Another Magazine question...
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:32:09 PM »
I know there is a long action and a short magazine for different Calibers. My Tikka, in .243 , is marked with an "M". I`ve had jamming problems with this Rifle since I bought it. Could this be the problem? Or, is the .243 a medium action Cartridge???

I have a few tikka's and if I remember right there is only one action size for all of them.  Thus they are able to produce them cheaper.

Here's an article:

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQY/is_4_50/ai_113853244/

Here's the part you might be interested in:

"All T3s are made on the same long action. T3s for short cartridges are fitted with a longer bolt stop so bolt throw is shorter. The T3 is offered in right hand versions only. Currently the only options, other than cartridge choice, are wood with blued steel, or synthetic stock with stainless or blued steel."

It seems like the difference comes in the bolt and perhaps that block in the magazine for oal.

If this gun has jammed since you got it why have you not brought it back for repair . The tikka is one fine smooth operating gun and a Joy to shoot . So if something is not right -get it back where you got it ..

The 243 is a short action caliber and I believe says  M  on the side if the magazine.

A Tikka is one of the smoothest feeding rifles out there.  You should not experience feeding issues.

Were you feeding factory ammo or handloads?  Check your C.O.A.L.

I don't believe Tikka has discontinued the manufacture of left hand rifles.  They are still listed in their catalog and I saw some at the shot show last month.
