BAR ?
« on: December 03, 2010, 02:37:28 PM »
*I have a bar carbine and it's terrific however when checking the zero it seemed liked it kicked more than usual, got a scope cut, first in 50 yrs, now I'm shy about shooting this rifle . My son also commented on the unusual recoil. Could be I was just holding it wrong ? We were shooting off sandbags in an awkard position. What would cause the unusual recoil ?

There is a buffer on the operating rod under the forearm. Mine on a 7mm mag had deteriorated and crumbled. It was an eye opening experience. My thought was "no way that can make that big of a difference" I was mistaken, IT does make a difference.  Best I can remember it didn't cost but a few dollars to replace myself.

Same experience myself. It is located right where the rod meets the receiver. Do a thorough cleaning of all the parts as long as your in there making sure the gas ports are open and free of gunk. You might be surprised how much smoother it works, and it won't punch you as hard.

I find that if I can't sit fairly straight , rather leading down on the rifle , it recoils more on the collar bone part of the shoulder , and your eye relief is too probably closer to two inch's . Try a few more bags under the gun , so the gun is more in line as if your shooting standing up.

http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=4146. I ordered mine from Numrich. Here is a link, I've ordered several parts from them through the years without a problem. I'ts part # 8 on this schematic.
