« on: December 04, 2010, 03:13:05 AM »
Guys,
Im looking for an affordable optic for a H&R ultra 308 for use out to 300 yards. i want to keep it compact without adding another 2 lbs of optics. Its for a friend of mine who was injured while we were in Afghanistan who loves to hunt and has lost most of the use in his left arm. help me out guys because he dosnt need to spend a ton of cash. thanks for your input. he's a hell of a guy.

Welcome! Check out the new 2-7x or 3-9x Redfield Revolution, I've got one of each, good glass, Handi friendly for hammer clearance, made in the USA by Leupold, pretty hard to beat for under $150, read the reviews at Cabelas.  ;)

I'll add my name to the list of satisfied Redfield owners. Best of all you get the same warranty that Leupold offers.

Allot of guys have bought these Redfields and seem to like them. I too now have one but haven't used it yet so I will reserve comment.

I like to suggest that people spend $$ on good glass. Its a very good return on the $$ spent. I also like to suggest used Leupold scopes. Generally a good clean scope can be had for about 2/3 the $$ of new and with Leupold you also get the warranty. Its on there scope, NOT the scopes owner. Personally, I like the VXII scope and feel the 2x7x33 will fit the bill for your buddie quite nicely. This should be found for under 200$

;D For the dollar spent and a great scope the Pentax Gamegetter II is tough to beat. I have 3 and stopped looking after I got the first one. Check them out at Fox Optics Travis and his wife are good people. Jess

While I am a fan of the Nikon scopes, I would throw out an underdog to you by recommending the Swift 2-7x40mm. I have found them just under $125 in the past and they are very clear and nicely done.
They also have a lifetime warrenty. The shop I used to frequent was a Swift dealer and if something went wrong, he would trade out with you if he had it in stock or order one to trade you.

Right now Cabelas has a pretty good sale on the Bushnell Trophy XLT. I bought one earlier this year for my .308 Handi (with the advice of my gunsmith friend) and am very happy with it.
Cabelas has a deal right now for $99 and free shipping. It is a kit that includes butler creek caps, a boresighter, and a package of Hoppes field wipes. That's for the 3-9X40 scope.
That's a damn good deal!!

Awesome scopes!!!!Cheaper on eBay

I've seen quite a few unhappy Redfield owner's post on the net.  I'd rather have a Leupold Rifleman for the same money.

I've seen quite a few unhappy Redfield owner's post on the net. How many is quite a few? And where? I've seen two posters total that didn't like the Redfield. I'd rather have a Leupold Rifleman for the same money. All the rifleman scopes I viewed on the net were more money than the 2-7 or 3-9 Redfield.
