35's and cast bullets
« on: December 11, 2003, 05:43:54 PM »
anybody use them?
I have a 357 max in a TC Contender carbine and a couple of NEI molds, 175 gr and 220 gr.  The max seems to like the 220 grainers and IMR 4198 powder, 1800fps into an inch at 100 yards.

I have a 10" TC factory barrel in .357 Herrett that consistently stays under an inch at 100 yards for three shots using cast bullets from an LBT 200 LFN mold. I now have one of these molds of my own which I'll be making bullets with. The bullets I have were made by the fellow who sold me the barrel. I use the old W680 powder for this. I also have an RCBS 200 grain and an RCBS 175 grain RN mold for the round. I'll be using them in my old Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. also.

I've used the RCBS 175 RN in .35 Rem. before and it along with several handgun cast bullets worked OK.

That winchester 680 powder was good stuff in the 30 herrett and the 357 max, too.  What are you going to try in its place?

I have a life time supply on hand. I don't expect to need to find a replacement.

I use Mt. Baldy's 280 gr WLN in the .358 Win and .35 Whelen. For Squirrels I use the dead soft 148 gr WCs. Sometimes I just buy the swaged HBWCs to avoid casting. I let my grandkids shoot the big guns with those squirrel loads. They like shooting more "adult" guns without the noise and recoil.  Good shootin' boys and girls.
