she did him in @ 130yrds ;D
right for dark.... he stuck his neck out and looked around.  i had ta squeeze offa shot for he looked
at tha shoot'n house.  bang!!...he flopped but got back up and flopped again.....then he took off lika light'n bolt for
tha thickest dang bramels... i blood trailed him on my hands and knees for bout 30 minutes, which ain't
far but its so thick that a old man can't hang..... so i called for tha blood hound !!!!    j3.. ;D
i heard him bust off his 4-wheeler and in no time he was on tha trail. that boy hasa natural bite
fer this kinda stuff  ;D he learned very well from the best in the area, his dad. we won't go where he got his
learn'n from ;) ::).
anaway, tha 225gr sierra made a nice entrance hole and a heckava exit !!!!.

i've kilt manya whitetail but never seen one go that far with half his lungs and heart on tha ground.
j3 found him about 40yrds inside that thick crawlin brush.  he made 2 complete circles in bout a 15yrd
radius  then piled up.

all the vitals were wrecked.... i don't thank i'd gotum out ifin i did'nt have the grandson.

i've seen beagles turn away from that crawlin brush chase'n bunnies :o

well, here he is...... pictures suck but thats all i had.

j3 says "paw-paw, you pack that sausage wif green onion, garlic and red pepper...oh man yeah"

and i'll do just that for that fine young man....... ;D

notice the gut bucket.... its full.  j3 got him one bout an hour for i did.
he already had her cleaned and hang'n in tha cooler house before i got there.....he was at our favorite shoot'n house
" tha condo"

its amaze'n what a 13 year old boy can do

sea-ya.....
in tha meen time, i'm wait'n for tha  7th trumpet ta sound !!!

Congrats to you and J3 ;D
That whelen hit's 'em pretty hard. I used to use 250gr. core lokts in mine and I never needed a second shot. :)

Way to go John & J3. Looks like it was a good day.

Put a little brightener magic on one of your pictures. Hard to imagine he went that far!

well done, sorry for the trouble you had finding him, the last one i got with the whelen went about 30 yards down hill with her heart and lungs mostly on the outside too, amazing what they can do with a good head of steam up.
glad you found him, my buddys son put a solid frontal lung hit on one last week and we lost it after 400 yards thru the bushes when the blood trail quit and the tracks crossed a bunch of others. lots bright blood to start then trickled down to none and we looked for hours to find it and never could.

Congratulations on the deer!!!  Way to break in that Whelen!!!

I have shot a couple deer with that 225 Sierra bullet and your rite, its a soft one!! I have seen many lung shot deer go quite far, that's OK you recovered him and if your like me, rib meat is of no real consequence.

With my old stocks and bullets!! Way to go and good shooting. Do you think they 250s is the way to go? I wonder if the Barnes X-bullets would have done any better...

hey dinny, the stocks are great.... i had'nt got into the bullets yet, cus i had bout 90 of them when i traded
you the 180's.  the 250 gr bullets will be tried this summer.  as far as the x-bullets are concerned,
they are purdy much purdy thats about it cept for costly.
i've tried them in my #1 whelen and they did'nt do much above the sierra's in performance on hawgs !!!!
they be purdy tho....... ;D

spike, ifin i cud get my lil'jack to blood trail without flip'n out on anathang else that moves. he cud get in them small places.  but i'd be LMAO watch'n him... itsa one a them jack-russell thangs  :D :D

i never found that bullet.... :'(  it hit some them bama iron rocks and went into orbit, i guess. or vaporized  ::)
seen where it hit but no sign where it went. appears to have been still intact cord'n to the impression
it made on the rock.... bout .472"

Love those .35s.  Nice hole in and bigger hole out.  They seldom go far.  Hit the spine or shoulders and it's always a flop.
