Encore 209x45
« on: December 06, 2010, 03:52:25 AM »
I am interested in your experiences with the Encore 209x45.  Where I hunt, I can shoot approximately 300 yards, and from looking at the load data in the T/C manual, it appears that this might shoot a little flater and not give up too much in the energy area.  What are your thoughts?

All thought the 45 Cal might be a little flatter shooting than the 50 cal, not by much I might add, it is not a 300 yard gun. Once you get past 200 yards, the drop of the bullet is going to be a lot. The bullets for the 45 Caliber are usually lighter, and don't carry well down range past 200 yards.

I had a 45 Cal Encore, and I actually had better results with the 50 Cal and sold my 45 cal.

I shoot mainly 45's for many years.  The main drawback to them is finding "rifle" bullets.  Pistol bullets do well out to 150, but that's pushing it.  SST's, PR Bullets, and Parker's shoot well and with 110 gr of Pyrodex will shoot nearly a 175yd dead zero.  After that, you need to know exactly how far your shot is.  There's still enough energy at 200 yds to kill a deer, but the 200gr bullets start falling out of the sky around there.  Again, the main drawback is finding "rifle" bullets.  JMHO.......

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input.  Sounds like I might just stay with my 50.

I did the samething myself. Had to beat the 50 Cal.
