bug out 22

I am getting a bug out bag together. I need a SS 22 caliber revolver. What is my best buy for around $300 or less. Need adjustable sights. Will be sighted in ammo (2 bricks) storred away in a large duffle bag. Will get holster latter.4  inch barrel minimum. Also putting in a 20 guage single shot shotgun and 2 boxes of field loads. Just me and wife in house.

A used SP-101 might be found at that price. I would go DA if protection is part of the use. A ruger auto would be less and just as accurate.

mine is a J-frame smith  22

it  matches my J-frame  357

and my kids all  have J-frame 38s

with your shot gun  for fire power
your handgun  MUST be as concealable as posible

tho a larger gun will be more effective  if  used
but  useless if lost....left behind or confiscated

I would also (and have) select/ed the Ruger MkII for this role you've described.  Actually what I have is a MkII version of the M22/45.  Goal is to replace upper with an aluminum Tactical Solutions upper and make it extremely lightweight, but with a 5in barrel!

Another solution worth looking into is the Ruger Charger pistol with a 10 or 12 inch barrel.  Not as compact as a J-frame, but that is the handgun version of the 10/22, and perfectly legal.  An 8in, 10in, or 12inch .22LR still gives 92+ percent of normal .22LR ballisitics and performance.

Yesterday at a gun show i saw several Ruger Mk1's for sale at @$250, some Mkll's available.  One Mkll 22/45 was listed at $250, but i didn't have the jack (damm!).

A Single-Six is a solid piece and I'll pick one up after I have all my semi-auto .22's.  (Or a Bearcat for really small hands!)

Offhand, the only thing I can think of that meets all of your stated requirements would be a Charter Arms Pathfinder.

It's available in SS, 4" barrel w/adj. sights, and new street price is around the 300 mark.

4 inch ruger semi auto. a 22 revolver is just to slow to reload in a defense situation and being that its a bug out gun im guessing thats what you intend it for in a pinch

i have not seen anything that comes close
they  are  nice ...and  big...and with the bi-pod  who needs a stock

but  you need a gun  that  is ALWAYS  with you!!!.....and  not  likely taken from you

Maybe so but if I were going that route I believe i would find an old 10 inch mark 2 . The one I had was a tack driver.

Does not meet all the criteria, but my bag has a Walther P22 in it. After breaking it in and doing a little fluff and buff work, it has been dead reliable with bulk ammo. Easily concealed IWB or OWB. When not practicing, I keep it stuffed with CCI minimags.

The MkII and Single Six are both great choices - if I were buying something just for the purpose, might end up with a Bearcat.

Tried earlier to comment on this.  I could also see myself carrying a 10inch Mkll or M22/45, but would rather have a Tactical Solutions' (out of Boise, ID) Trail-lite (Pac-Lite?) aluminum upper on that Mkll or M22/45! 

Tactical Solutions makes after-market upper-receivers (out of aluminum with a steel chamber and bore liner) thats incredibly lightweight, but very well made and accurate.   ;D

A 10inch M22/45 with ample magazines could provide a lot of rounds to hunt with but also defend with - esp with Velocitors.  But a 10inch .22LR barrel also gives 90-92 percent of regular Long rifle performance too, found in a 16inch .22LR rifle barrel!  Its no accident those 10inch Rugers have been quite popular with shooters who do .22 Silhouette.

Only revolver I believe you can buy for $300 is a ruger single six. They are good guns but like Lloyd says a auto would be faster to reload. I'd buy a ruger standard auto or a buck mark and be happy.
