« on: December 06, 2010, 01:15:30 PM »
i just git done hunting today.i decided to leave my stand early today wasnt seeing anything an the wind was blowing like 30mph.decided to take a walk by one of the food plots we have on the way out an there was 2 does in there.decided to take the biggest one,she was about 55 yards out.at the shot she just dropped in her tracks, this is a first for me.cant believe how hard this 44mag hit her.i just bought this rossi m92 less than a week ago,its the 24 inch oct. barrel in stainless.i hate to say it but i shelved my brand new marlin 336 in 35 rem an my handi talo in 357 mag.both those guns are less than a year an a half old an i dont think they are going to see much use anymore.i just love this m92,already thinking about a twin in 454 casull ;D ::).ive shot deer 20,12ga slug guns an 50,45 caliber muzzle loaders an my 35 rem an never had a deer go down like this.my buddies have been making fun of me telling me to get a real gun in a rifle caliber an quit screwing with these pistol calibers ::).try to get some pics up tomarrow.

I've been wanting a Pistol Cartridge Rifle for quite some time now since they legalized them for deer hunting in Indiana.  I looked at several lever actions but didn't want to spend that much money so I bought a H&R Handi Rifle in .44 Magnum this year. I don't think I will ever pick up my slug guns again. I absolutely love this rifle.

I put a Centerpoint scope on it, 2 x 7 x 32 power. I'm using Hornady, 240 grain, XTP hollow point cartridges.

I shot a small buck at about 23 yards. He ran about 35 yards, stopped, fell over, kicked twice, and was dead. The Hornady XTP load did massive internal damage.

I shot a large doe at about 25 yards on the last day of general firearms. It was getting dark and I started tracking her immediately. She ended up running about 75 yards before collapsing. Again, massive internal damage.

Enjoy your new Rossi !

Kawie, the 454's do have more kick than the 44, but they both wear recoil pads from the factory.  That takes most of the sting out of it.  Main difference is you need to have a better grip on the forestock with the 454's or they can jump out of your hand.  Never notice it while hunting.  If ya don't mind a bit more recoil, you would love touchin one off with the 454.  I also like the way the mag tube is set up like a 22.  Handy to unload the tube if needed by unscrewing the tube and dumping them out, then jack the one in the chamber out.  Puts a grin on my face when ever I shoot em.  DP
