Well my kit finally arrived today, a little late but no matter. It'll give me something to do while it snows.

I was planning on doing  step by step photo's but I eagerly removed all the cast seam's before i though of that. I will probably leave the "Warning" engraving on just cause its no bother to me. It will be browned too ;)

I used Laurel Mountain Forge on both the plains pistol and rifle I built. It pretty much covered all the lettering on the barrel. I was very happy with it.

I have the 50 cal. and like all have stated it is very accurate. Does anyone make a smooth bore barrel that will fit this gun? If so it would make a great snake or small varmint gun.

What did you use on the wood? I have the Birchwood Casey wood finishing kit. I like the dark finish of yours ;)

All this talk about the Lyman pistol rekindled my desire to shoot mine. Went to the range last weekend. Mine is 50cal and very accurate. The loading stand I built makes shooting and cleaning a lot easier.

Here it is;

I took my time as compared to my GPR which I raced the clock so I could shoot before I headed to Afghanistan. The Plains pistol turned out better than I thought. I will be blackening the brass trigger guard eventually. Both .54 and can't wait to shoot them next wknd :D.
I like your loading stand "fistmil", that'll be my next project!!

Beautiful job man.  It's a classic you can pass down to your kids and their grand kids.  ;)  I now have the kit .45 Colonial pistol my grandpa made back in the early 70's.  ;)

Beauty!! I bought a very nice 45 a while back, it was in these classifids. A beautifily finished kit with a browned barrel. Now I just lie about it, much easier.
