Obtaining rifle front sight for TC Encore tapered barrel.
« on: December 07, 2010, 11:45:10 AM »
I've got a second hand Encore tapered rifle barrel coming in the mail and I will need a front sight for it.  I'm expecting it to be 0.725" diameter barrel, but won't know for sure until it arrives.

I haven't seen any sights for 0.725" dia. barrels on the TC website available to order, and being that the Custom Shop is still down, I haven't tried contacting TC yet.

The Williams Sights website and catalog does not specifically mention sight ramps for 0.725" barrels.

Anyone have experience finding them?

It started out as a walnut stocked 209x50 Encore that I bought at Cabela's in 1998.  It now has a 16 1/4" .357 Maximum barrel with a William's WGRS peep sight.  I just need the front sight now.  I emailed TC today.  If I don't get a response in a couple of days, I'll give them a call.

that bad boy is screaming for a silencer.   I think it would be awsome to have a short 357/38 spec barrel with a can on it.

I really like the maneuverability of the shorter barrel.  The longer 24"+ barrels are cumbersome.

I looked into silencers (or perhaps better described suppressors) for a .22LR so I could shoot at home without irritating my neighbors.  I am reluctant about pursuing owning a suppressor as I don't know how it effects accuracy, longevity of suppressors is rather limited, extra cost and non-transferable tax stamp.  You can only buy one suppressor with the ($200?) tax stamp but can't transfer it to another suppressor if you decide you want something different, so you had better make sure you buy the one you want first time around.

My recent frustrating experience ordering from TC:

I decided to order a few sets of front sights for Encore barrels from TC.  I ordered three front sights (which I was told included ramps, posts and screws) and also I ordered some "extra screws" to replace those I broke previously on a rear sight removal.  About a week or so later, I received the "extra screws" but not the front sights.  The packing list only mentioned the "extra screws", so anticipating the remainder of the order was back-ordered, I patiently wait several weeks.  After not receiving anything further, I called them again.  I was told by the person I talked to, that the remainder of my order "just shipped the previous Friday".  So I waited another couple of weeks.  Again not receiving anything, I called again and then I was told only one shipment had been sent, that in early January (the original shipment that only included the "extra screws") but no other shipments had been sent and my order was closed as though the order had been completed.

After getting all this straightened out and an additional shipping delay which required an additional phone call, I finally received the front sights 2 1/2 months after my original order.

But they didn't include the screws that I was originally told came with the sights!

I not sure it will be worth the trouble trying to correct the order for the screws.  I may just order them from Brownells and forget about it.  Not sure if I will try ordering from TC again.
