CZ Model 550 Full Stock rifles...
« on: December 08, 2010, 07:23:58 AM »
I'd really like to get one of these in 6.5x55, but I'd like some feedback from you folks that have them (caliber is not important in this discussion).  Are they accurate enough for medium range hunting (say to 300 yards)?  How about issues with POI moving around because of the long stock?  Are you happy with your rifle?

I guess the reason I am interested in these rifles is that I have a CZ 452 full stock that has pretty much ended my need for another .22 LR bolt gun.  It is easily the most accurate rimfire I own.  So, obviously having a full length stock has not hurt it any and it's a pretty little thing.  So, my thoughts are moving toward owning a larger caliber CZ full stock.  Your input is greatly anticipated and appreciated.

There are several discussions of them posted on the CZ Forum here. I seem to recall all who've had them seemed quite happy with them. For more details check out the threads there.

As far as I'm concerned...you buy a FS rifle because it's a FS rifle.  Great accuracy is bonus!  Accuracy on FS guns is generally OK but the draw, at least for me, is the asthetics.  I suspect it will easily handle 90% of your needs.  I have a FS custom Mauser in 7x57.  It's a 2" gun at 100yards...which is fine for what it is.  I wouldn't take it pronghorn or dall sheep hunting.  I've taken it out for deer and hogs...works fine!

I have a CZ FS in 65x55 and it is extremely accurate .It will shoot under 1 inch at 100 yds all day.I can shoot groups under3inches at 200  consistantly. The rifle may even be able to shoot better than that, but I can't.I like it so much I went back and bought a 452 fs in 22mag. If the wife finds out I'll be typeing 1 handed.lol   Now if I can only get some good weather so I can spend a day at the range with my new twins.

Ive got the 527 in FS, absolutly love it an its a shooter for sure.  Id not worry so much, cz has a pretty good track record for accuracy.
The temps up here go from dang hot to well...its going to be -20 this weekend I guess, Ive not had a problem yet.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies folks.  I guess I shouldn't have asked this question.  Because of this reply from Flynmoose, I am probably going to be wanting a 527 FS in .22 hornet as well as the 550 FS in 6.5x55.  I did check the CZ subforum and didn't see anything there that was negative, so I'm seeing a thumbs up for the FS.  Maybe I am being blind in one eye I don't know.  Here's a picture of my 452 FS.

Beautiful 452. And just in time.CZ let the cat out of the bag ,that 452's are going to be discontinued in 2011.The ones that are still out there are going fast and getting harder to find.

I know this is not the rimfire forum, but I've had that 452 FS for a year and I really would not let that go.  I also have a 452 American in .22 WMR and have been disappointed with the accuracy of it, but the bedding on the mag American is a poor design in my view.  I am going to pillar bed the rear and epoxy bed the front of the receiver and see if it does better.  If not, I don't know where it will wind up; too bad because it is a beautiful rifle.

Back on topic, I am trying to figure out a way to get one of those 550 FS rifles, but a little thing called money is holding me back.   I'll have to sell some stuff to be able to afford it.
