I have one of the 45 Colt /410 barrels and thought it would be a great mountain gun.
45 Colt for what ever and the 410 for grouse and rabbits.
Well it will work as a 45 Colt to finish off a deer or elk. the 410 is Ok to about 10 yards (it is not a short 410 shot gun) and slugs or buck out of it are not as powerful as the 45 colt loads.
The sights are funky, adjustable but funky. If you want to shoot the 45 colt you remove the choke tube, if you want to shoot shot shells you screw back in the choke tube or there are huge holes in your pattern as the wad is spinning. You can shoot the 45 colt mild rounds through the choke tue but it is designed to stop the wad from spinning and does the same with the projectile. Guns and Ammo Mag TV show did a tourture test on it. I have not tried this. You may beable to find the clip on the G&A TV website. But having to change a choke tube in the mountain did put a damper on my idea when hunting in ID or MT on horse back of having a big bore and small shotgun all in one on my hip
If you are looking for a 10" hunting barrel - I would look at a 44 Mag.
Hornady makes the same bullets for the 44 Mag
Reloading 44 mag to 44 Special levels is possible and 44 mag is easier to find in a hunting load than the 45 colt loads that are mostly loaded to cowboy specs in your local stores. not saying you can not hunt with 45 colt cowboy loads but why limit your self. The 44 mag can do every thing 45 colt can and all guns chambered for hit can handle the hot loads, while not all 45 colts can.
If you already have a cowboy gun then You are limited to the pressure levels of the Cowboy gun.
You don't want to get your ammo mixed up and ruin a firearm.
OH and since the 410 is a 2.5" there is a lot of free space before the 45 cold engages the rifeling and accuracy is not as pin point as if you had a dedicated barrel to only one caliber.
PM me and I will send you pictures of the 45 / 410 barrel and show you what I am talking about.
