Black Finish on Pardner Stocks
« on: December 09, 2010, 05:14:39 PM »
Anyone know what they use to black finish the Pardner hardwood stocks? Is it just paint, or something more durable? I'm interested in doing something similar. Thanks!

Paint and not very high quality at that.  Mine started coming off before I actually had the chance to hunt with it.  I re-did mine with Krylon O.D. green after getting their cheap stuff off, then gave it a coat of Krylon matt clear coat.  This was a couple years ago, so far its held up pretty well.

I was afraid of that. Was hoping it was some type of stain/wood finish product. Appreciate your help!

Becareful, if you strip it you may want to put some clear coat on it. Some of the pallet wood has some nice grain to it ;)

There are some nice black oak stains if you want the wood grain and black.

There is the old 'ebony' stain too.
What have you got for wood now? I have a black set almost new that I might trade.

Thanks, I've got a stock blank in the basement I've been planning to do something with as a winter project. The stains sound interesting, I'll check those out.

I'd have to agree with Lon371 if the grain is nice clear it.  I've had some good results with Tru Oil.  Some folks dont like it but it gave mine a nice shiny finish.
