Hello, Prebanpaul. That sounds like an early target/varmint conversion. Before I did anything to that barrel, I would first check carefully for any makers name or markings..This sounds like a late 1930's or 40's conversion & it could very well have a known barrelmakers name..which if ANY type of machining were done on it value would tank. I know it's your gun and you can do what you like..but there are serious collectors out there. Also, I am in process of aquiring an original .25-25 Ballard. I spoke with some pretty well know Ballard experts, and their opinons are centerfire ballard loads are best kept in the black-powder range of pressure..that split breechblock is held together only by two little flat head screws. Some of those late 1920-1930's smiths were kind of reckless when it came to pressure & action strength. Best of luck!
