The WFN works very well if seated deep enough to feed smoothly. LFN's can be seated out farther and feed smoothly. The Marlin bullet is the ultimate for feeding smoothly and is extreemly accurate, but the meplat is a bit smaller than the LFN, so it doesn't hit game quite as hard, though it does a very clean job if started at at least 1500 fps.
I haven't played with a 45-70, but have learned that almost all shoot best with .460 or larger diameter bullets, because large chambers are typical. If the chamber/throat/groove diameter is smaller and calls for smaller, of coarse the bullet should fit the gun it will be fired in.
