When I find the manual, I'll xerox it and send a copy!

(The lathe is enroute as I type this.)

Congratulations on picking a good lathe . I bought a Supermax 16x67 new in 1985 and have used it up to now with no problems except the indicator light burning out .  ;D

Don't know.  Haven't looked.   ;D

And yes, one of the indicating lights burned out last year.  6v from what I've heard, haven't measured it.   (Really easy to see if coolant is flowing.)

Note the come-a-long chain PULLING it up onto the trailer.

(The tanker bar was to lift the front to put .050 steel sheets underneith - heavy machines slide on steel MUCH better than on rough sawn oak.)

All I can see in a still photo is a taut chain, which could also be letting the lathe down the slope under control.  You should have posted a video.   ;D

I buy a lot of tooling from Enco and have been satisfied with them.  You could also check out HHIP which is down the street from me.  Their web site leaves something to be desired but they have a good selection of stuff at reasonable prices.

AND, finally, the paperwork.  Purchased in January of 1988 for $5,685.00.

The 65pg manual to be sent ... somewhere ... when I get an address.

That would be Terrific.
I had heard so much good about these lathes, that when I found this one
for a good price, I Paid extra to get it out of the guys cellar.
He didn't have the manuals and Not much tooling came with it, but has a Nice DRO.
Lot's of oiling points and I need to add to the "gear" oil since some leaked out when
they brought it out of the cellar.
Runs real nice. Heavy little bugger. took it off the trailer with my track loader.

I love making stuff. Machinist by trade. Estimator by neccessity.

That sounds like a pretty heavy pc of stock. Brass, bronze  or iron barrel ?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul - WELCOME to the board!

As I told Rick, I have a FEW small spare parts.  Parts are available thorugh other sources - which make this a good lathe to own.

Post some pix of what you shoot and make!

Thanks for the welcome,
I havent made any shooters yet but I'll be sure to post some stuff.
I've cranked the handles for more than a few years at the shop I work at.
The shop got big and almost all the manual machines are gone except two bridgeports and two 16 x 40ish Lathes.
So now  I do the estimating.
I'm just getting started with this home shop thing.
I've been pricing some of my start up tooling and looking for deals.
I know a little about casting alloys and I know a bit about most of the elements on the periodic table since we
make parts out of any and all the elements that won't kill you and a few that will, So I might be able to pitch in with an answer or idea every once and awhile.

I shoot a .38 auto for practice and a 12 gage semi auto for hunting and home defense (ok, sometimes I shoot that for fun too). I don't have a nice rifle.
I have a few Ideas for a project or 2 or 3 already. My Brother is a gun smith (He's the Hammerly Guy") and does some custom work and also good to bounce Ideas off.

One of my Ideas is a reprodution / modification of a falling block design, maybe for a .410 or something like that. I have an old one with a damaskus (spelling?) barrel that is just a wall hanger and not worth anything but I just think the way it works is kind of cool. I don't know what you think of that idea , hehe

I'm also very new to the message board thing,
I just started reading this one while looking for an answer to a question and really got interested, Especially after
seeing some of the projects people have done.

Welcome Paul....I think the question "What do you shoot..." was referring to any cannons or mortars you might be getting some fire and smoke out of....even tho your other shooting irons are alright, we are really looking for "the other stuff", hence the name of the forum! LOL... And, with that new machine of yours, you could produce some right nice "toys", we'er thinkin'....BoomLover

Boomlover - Good summary of our perspective.  On the flip side, it is interesting to know what other things folks get into.  I used to have a bullet hose (Mac11-9mm) (Legally too!) but now I am into Scheutzen rifles.  DD is the master of Martini Rifles and there are a number of folks here that not only like to shoot cannons but dress up in Blue or Gray and do it with style!
