What everybody else said!   ;D  Beer in the fridge, a comfortable cot, color tv, whatever we want to eat whenever we want to eat it, a hot tub to sit in while eating fast food, drinking cold beer and watching color TV... Oh!  and maybe some deer hunting also!   ;D

You know, just man stuff!

Naw, ;D  We camped for years, tents, fire, the whole bit.  But the older we got the less fun it became... especially in wx like we're having now!   ::)  So now our deer camp is my huntin' buddy's garage.  We got all the stuff I mentioned right there, well the hot tub is in the breezeway between the garage and the main house, plus a kitchen, bathroom and shower! ;D  We even have a (propane, fake wood) campfire!   :D

Well, I'm fortunate to have darn good deer hunting here on the farm so I don't get to deer camp as much as I have in the past.

I guess though that it's as much anticipation as anything else.  Plus, you can belch, scratch and fart without getting any dirty looks.  Walk around in your long johns all day if you want and eat what you darn well please with no one to remind you what your cholesterol number or blood pressure is.

I got an invite last week from my late brother's son to go to his camp for a while so I guess I'll get to experience deer camp for the first time in years...

PS-Hey, AtlLaw, now that I've seen that picture I'll have to contact the local VA clinic for post trauma emotional support counseling tomorrow!

Eating like kings, swapping lies, re-connecting with guys that you havent seen since the previous season. Living a kind of communal hunting tradition that our forefathers did for many generations. Not getting in trouble for walking in with muddy boots. passing the whiskey bottle after a day's hunt.

Yup - I work around dental drills all day - love the quiet of the woods....bout the only loud noise coming around is the daily freight train runnin into waycross.    Love the smell of campfire smoke, the crack of a rifle and the squeal of a piggie  ;) .

Sitting in the woods all day with the cell phone turned off. Sleeping in the tent. Cooking on the campfire. Being with my friends and family doing what we love to do, hunting.

Deer camp is a time machine that allows us to escape the drudgery of modern existance. It allows us to fall back to a more natural rythym with life. You do not have many of the artificial constructs of modern life to dictate how to run your life. Deer camp, bear camp, hog camp, whatever camp allows us to become a true human being.

I guess it's most of the reason's you all gave... but in one way or the other, it just comes down to the fact that I can get away from the normal and sort of get back to just the basic's.  Good food, good sleep, a warm stove, doin' what I want when I want.  I mean it SORT of gets you back to being single for a week or so.  No nagging, no painting, no cleaning, no incessant list of things to do and places to go every night.  What we need is to rearrange some other stuff and have a "deer camp" and then a "pig camp" and then a "rabbit camp" and then a "squirrel camp" and then a "bass camp" and then a "crappie camp" and then a ............   Ohhh, I guess that would be called "divorced"...

A campfire, good food cooked outdoors, hot coffee, cold beer or tea, friends and my son, yarns swapped, comfy cot with a cozy sleeping bag, fresh air and memories to be made. What's not to like? :)

The last of Oct. my son and I will be going on a three day Managed Muzzleloader hunt to the Drury-Mincy Wildlife Area not far from my home. It's normaly archery only, except for Turkey hunting, and 250 tags are given out for the hunt. Everyone camps at the area provided and it's a blast meeting new folks and those we've met there before when we were lucky enough to be drawn in the past. Food is often shared as well as stories and it's always fun comparing muzzleloaders and gear. We are really looking forward to it. This will be our 5th time we've been drawn for the hunt. We archery hunt there a lot and know the area well. It's aprox 5,000 acres bordered on 3 sides by Bull Shoals Lake and it has several creeks and springs as well as about 50 very nice food plots.

That area around Bull Shoals is pretty nice. For years I use to go there with a group of guys on our annual fishing trip. We stayed at a little place that had cabins on the lake just outside Oakland. Good bass fishing. Dry county though. But we got around that part....

I know right where you're talking about. Not dry any more though. Not since just a few months ago. They finally got tired of everyone driving into Missouri to spend their money. ;)  You ever make it back this way my door is always open to a friend. :)
