Directly from the playbook for tyrants. Get the citizens to rat each other out to the point that you cannot trust even family members. Prime examples, Hitler and Sadam. I believe that people "reporting" on their neighbors is mentioned in end timed prophecy in the Bible also.

It is indeed sad to see us slipping down this path. Any of you watch an older 90's sci-fi show called Babylon 5? Throughout the middle of the show the government went corrupt and started a program called the "Night Watch" which was very similar to this - trying to get the citizens to look for "odd" and "unpatriotic" activity and report it.

Has anybody actually seen any of these videos? I'd be interested to see what is actually in them? So far, it seems like a variant of the english public announcements about how to report Ira bombs if they see a strange package, or the like.

CONTROL. EVERY step our gooberment takes is about control. The incremental breakdown of our Constitution and Liberty started in earnest with the so called patriot act. What is patriotic about stripping rights from the people? Prepare to defy tyranny. Why, before talks in afghanistan has the level of violence picked up? Just who is orchestrating the mess? BTW, if any of you haven't read 1984, I would suggest you do so. Rather uncanny when you think about when it was written. "War is peace, freedom is slavery".

The actual numbers for the "If you see something, say something" campaign expansion with Wal-Mart is reported as 230 stores already started on 6 December, with a total of 588 in 27 states joining in the coming weeks. This is an expansion of a program rolling out to 9,000 Federal Buildings. Other partners include the Mall of America, the American Hotel & Lodging Association, Amtrak, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, sports and general aviation industries, and state and local fusion centers across the country.

In the coming months, the Department will continue to expand the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign nationally with public education materials and outreach tools designed to help America's businesses, communities and citizens remain vigilant and play an active role in keeping the country safe.

How did the British keep it from tying up legitimate public service assets in private vendettas, wild speculation or just plain meanness?

I lived in the UK for some time, and most of the Brits complained to me about how much like a Police State they'd become. They weren't even able to fly flags in support of their troops deployed to OIF and OEF without receiving a visit from the police at the behest of an offended neighbor.

Just as Alex says in the video. Americans are conditioned to accept government.

It all starts in our schools, and government certainly has a handle on that. People think they send their kids to public schools to gain knowledge, so they can get a job, and live a good life. The problem is that they gain no knowledge of what they need to know, to remain free from tyranny. If you don't know. There is no problem, right?

If we boycotted every store that has the surveylence system, that would soon correct the problem if there are enough people that love freedom. The number of people that still bought there would be a dirrect reflection of our future political workings. The outcome of the boycot would probably make most of this crowd sick.

This survelence and suspicious behavior reporting sounds like the exact same "propaganda" we were taught about "Russia" when I was in Grammar School, Jr High and High School back in the 50s and 60s.

The books "1984" and "Power Shift" don't have to be read, just look around and be aware of what is in progress. Homeland Security Laws are getting toward the end of the process of takeing our freedom.

The first "homeland security laws" were ushered in by the "Oklahoma City Bombing", an event that I have ALWAYS felt was known about before hand by the FBI/government. The 9-11 attack finished the process of getting our freedoms eliminated.

By being relatively inexpensive and easy to understand. They put little signs in the subway stations and similar public places, and people got the message. Any packages left sitting weren't there for long, largely because of public awareness.

I'm not defending the overall police-state-ness of England, but that particular way of communicating did work pretty well by increasing awareness of the perennial problem of IRA bombers. We've still got a long way to go before we catch up with them for intrusiveness in daily life and private affairs.

To bend the topic a bit, my opinion is that 9/11 was most instrumental in ending IRA terrorism. The IRA saw what real terrorism was and they didn't want to be identified that way. So they changed their tactics.

These books made me think of a couple other things ... like the surveillance vans in Matt's first clip. But here's another one, remotely accessing personal smart devices in your home. Anybody seen the xbox kinect ... can pan and zoom an entire room, relaying body and facial recognition data to interact with a dance game. Can you imagine someone turning that on when you weren't aware? How about your smartphone eavesdropping on you from your pocket, or collecting video and audio while sitting on the table at home? Sounded to me an awful lot like the devices on the walls in 1984 that he hid from, and frankly listening to the news on the alphabet stations is like the 2 minutes of hate. All of the devices we use to communicate are susceptible to remote operation for collection without our knowledge, and the technology already exists to do so.

For an example to a lesser degree, my FB was hacked to access my iTunes to access my PayPal to access my Bank ... by some punk in xianhu. Imagine the potential of an organized, trained and equipped entity with larger goals than buying the latest Chinese pop albums, backed by executive order.
