went to buy some today and was told winchester is going to stop making this,anybody know why? got varget,going to give it a try.

Every time I find a truly useful item someone discontinues it. I LOVE that powder and better find me a BIG can of it soon.

I tried to find a convenient way to talk with Winchester to confirm the story about W748. I came up empty handed. However, I did run across the following at their website. You may want to look into this if you are looking to buy a lot of powder.

i think what the guy at the stor might have ment, that they,the store, are discontinuing it,i bet thats what he ment, sorry if i scared yall.but im still gonna give varget a try. havent tried it yet,wind blowing up to 60 mile hour south of lubbock,tx,lovely!!!!

Well don't worry too hard boys, even if they discontinue it you will probably still be able to get it repackaged in the Hodgdon line.

I'd like to think you are right Tom but I'm not so sure. Winchester is actually the powder maker. Hodgdon makes no powder at all. They buy from Winchester and package several of the identical powders under different names. To the best of my knowledge they don't sell one that is same as W748. It is actually a Winchester owned subsidary that makes the ball powders.
