Poll: Majority of Americans say they are worse off than they were two years ago

A majority of Americans feel that America has is “on the wrong track,” and that they are worse off than they were in 2008.

In a sweeping poll released by Bloomberg today, 66 percent of respondents said that they felt that “things in the nation…have… gotten off on the wrong track,” compared to just 27 percent who felt the country was heading in the right direction. 51 percent of respondents said they were worse off now than they were two years ago.

Maybe they don't understand the white house dribble that the recession is over?
Maybe they are part of a conspiracy to keep obama "looking bad"?
Does anybody believe the "D's" and "R's" will fix it later?
Get used too it America.

I can assure you I'm worse off now than in 2008. We lost $1150 a month in site income we had back then and I've put out prolly $12,000 or more this year helping Matt get into his new home.

No cost of living increases on any of our retirement checks cuz uncle sam sez the cost of living hasn't gone up. Of course my health insurance goes up $50-$75 a month each year and benefits go down as well. Gas and groceries cost more and I reckon all my utility bills have increase rates since 2008 but nope cost of living isn't up. Just ask barak osama if you doubt it.

Ok ... Now I am totally confused .
For the last 2 years , the republican strategy has been just say no to every piece of legislation put forth from the other side. So nothing has really been passed in the last two years to help jump start the economy because no one had the 60 vote super majority now needed to pass every ridiculous piece of legislation.

Now 2 years down the road we are blaming the Obama Administration??
Folks we cannot have our cake and eat it too.
There is plenty of blame to go around on all sides.
No one wants to work with anyone to help move forward.
Not the republican party I grew up with , Just total gridlock and stagnation.  JMHO

Nothing to be confused about. The policies pursued by the Obama administration have hurt our economy. What they thought would fix things have in fact made the problem worse. The Bush administration has left office and the blame for what they did left with them. They are no longer in charge and are no longer implementing anything. Fewer and fewer people have any faith in this administration and the efforts it has underway. All we need to do is look at the statistical facts.

ScooterD:

I seem to recall a different history, one where, for example, ObamaCare was passed without being read, spending programs were expanded in the name of stimulus, and virtually everything that the democrats wanted passed, got passed.

Graybeard:

This is genuinely sad, and it is a story repeated so many times across the land by small business owners everywhere. The most infuriating thing is the denial of inflation. Costs of living have definitely gone up since 2008. As you said, health insurance. But taxes also increased substantially. Groceries definitely increased, some dramatically. Gas is $3 per gallon, and I don't see it coming down because of the drilling moratoriums and the steadily increasing increase in the cost of a barrel of oil. People were alarmed in about 2008 when it was $68/barrel. It's over $90 now.  There's a big army of people who had to retire early because they were fired and they can't get a job anymore.

Imagine an income tax increase going into effect in January and its impact on your spending power. This would never be considered inflation yet it would have in some cases a 10% immediate inflationary impact. Huge.

Nothing got passed in the last two years?  :o

Eh...and we wonder how Obama and this Congress got voted in?  There you have it...

We all really know passing legislation is not the key to an economy anyway, doing nothing would have been OK...much better.  Taking over car compaines took an act of congress, a stimulas package (spending spree) took an act of congress, health care (if you call it that) took an act of congress.  We spent trillions, guess what that takes an act of congress.  Dems have been in control of congress since end of 2006, they wound up with a total majority in congress, the white house, and the media.....and your telling me we didn't give them enough rope. The republicans didn't have enough votes to stop anything for a long time, the dem party imploded and couldn't even get their own votes...and your blaming republicans.  If there were no such thing as republicans the dems would be in the same place they are now, or maybe worse. What in the world does it take to pry some people out of the dem party and into reality...?  The republicans are taking over not because they are better, they actually had to do nothing except give the dems enough rope...they are back in power because the dems are a total disaster all by themselves.  and get used to it, 2012 it will happen again just as sure as people were told this would happen.

Ya...give em more rope, more paper for legislation, and more time.  Ya right.  I like doing nothing myself, spending gobs of our money for us did not work so well.  Course don't let the facts get in the way of good old fashioned party loyalty.
