KIMBER PRO CARRY IN 38 SUPER ***

   I am the proud owner of a new KIMBER . Unfortunately it is in 38 super . I am a 45 fan and wish to have it 'converted' . also I just read in this section about the army taking supers and ??>? to 38 spcl wadcutters . That would give me a 2 in one gun . where do I need to send it ? I want it done right but does that mean the factory ? how about CLARKS ( he is in Louisiana) .? I would appreciate any suggestions or dirrections .

'Unfortunately in 38 Super'.  I would suggest you contact Kimber and see what they can do for you vis a vis a 45 upper.  As for converting the 38 Super to 38 Spl - it was done by Army armorers and I believe they relieved the bolt face for the 38 spl rim and installed a 38 Spl barrel.  You may need to contact Clark in Louisana as I believe he used to specialize in those conversions; maybe it just requires a barrel and a weaker recoil spring.

And I will be willing to betcha that if you don't like the 38 Super you should be able to sell the piece for what you paid for it, easily.

If it's a 45 you really want, I'd sell the 38 super and buy the 45.  Kimber has a pretty healthy wait time for the Pro Carry in 38 super. My BIL ordered one and it it took 8-9 months if I remember correctly. I would think someone would snatch it up on one of the auction sites because of that.  I can find a Pro Carry in 45 in any shop that sells Kimber and if they don't have it in stock, they can get the 45 without the wait. As for the 38 special, your limited to wadcutters. The 38 super is a great round, easy to reload, powerful and accurate in the Kimber. What's no to like?

      Thanks for the replys !   It is in the for sale forum as we speak . Its probably alright but I am a 45 fan and like to keep my ammo inventory simple . Not a whole bunch of "odd" calibers that fit only one gun . have 'several' 45 acp's and like all . thought this one would be good to pack .
I traded something that I traded and so on, so used blue book $ .

got to agree. Sure wish i had the money to snatch it up. I couldnt think of a better 1911 then a comander sized 38 super for kicking around the woods.

Yup.............I also agree!.........I'd rather the 38 Super, than a 9MM or even a 40S&W in that gun.

I was the sameway at onetime too, sticking to a few different guns in the same caliber.  But now as i get older(wiser) i find my self not wanting a dozen 1911's in 45acp. (example).  Of course it means reloading dies and componets plus starting all over again getting brass too.  I think the 38 super would serve me well in a CCW gun too.  To me i need to break the samey, same all the time mold and venture out into other calibers.  I do the samething with eating out all the time too.  I play it safe and order a simple meal and the samething evertime not willing to venture out and try something different.  My wife always picks something different and new to eat while i eat the same meat and potatoes all the time.  Overall its time for me to change my samey, same ways and get some different calibers to play with.  I need to shoot something different and exceiting.  Maybe its just me that feels this way. I'd keep the 38super and buy another one in 45acp too. Things happen in weird strange ways sometimes.

dont be so quick to trade that super off. Do a little research on the round and run some through the gun and you may never want to let it go

   HOWDY !    do not guess you have ever done 'dumn' things ? I had a 'safe queen'
that I had traded to get and found this in a store we just stopped in by chance . the  queen was to trade and I had been on the look for something different that interested  me. this peice was in the display cabinet . I never imagined that it came in anything but 45acp .
we were in a rush but I traded anyway . we were on our way home from the CHRISTMAS
holidays . a couple of days later ( and a couple of hundred miles) I realized what I had .

in a rush and not paying attention to detail !!! if I can sit still for a day or two I will try again to get the custom people on the horn and see what would have to be changed besides the barrell to make it a 45 !!!      just looking for an easy fix !

Exactly!!! KEEP the super and buy another Pro Carry in .45acp. They are making plenty of those in .45,-----super, not so many!

+1 on keeping the Super...  I woudn't be without a 45 ACP for one but so long as I can have multiples the 38 Super is on my must have list.    My current Supers include a Kimber US Shooting Team Super and an old Colt modified to be a pure paper puncher.
