Weatherby xx11 (William, here's one for you to try)
« on: December 15, 2010, 03:16:23 AM »
Willian,

I was thinking about your dilemma on which 22 rifle to try next. I have a friend that shoots a Italian weatherby xx11. It a semi auto 22 made for weatherby. I believe it's the most accurate semi-auto 22 I've ever shot.
The new ones are bolt guns mtg by anscchutz for weatherby. But the older ones were semi-auto first mtg in it ally and then in japan.  ;D

Now do you want to wring my Christian neck? You seem to have that tendency.   ;D

There were some early Weatherby XX11s' made in Germany also.

Lurked,

I was not aware that the early xx11s were german made. I knew the early weatherby magnum center fires were German mtg. But never heard the 22s were.  ;D. Learn something every day.

Have been drooling on a Weatherby in 17 HMR at a dealers shop in my area. Really nice looking rifle. And my birthday is coming up soon.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

I now have another delima---besides youse guys.  ;)
This one aint gonna be resoved though, I am afraid.
The hen and I are going to Europe ths summer for 17 days. We fly into Budapest and float 15 days donw river to Amsterdam.
I have an old boy, a friend, who spent his life in the CIA and he was advising me on some weapons available over there. There is more than one problem though---I can't do it like he did it---just throw it on the aircraft supplied and bring it home.
I would like to find out how to ship one home----I really REALLY think this will put a bug in the plans.
He says there are some nice shops---most in private facilities---but you can buy em---I would just hate to have to go back every time I wanted to even look at it.
I have come to the conclusion that I don't want a sigle shot bolt or mag fed bolt---I remember those that I had when much younger.
That Italian would be a find--and I could live with that.
I really doan want to wring anybodys neck----well, that is a lie---I could wring Swampmans ol christian neck ever once in a while. ;)
Keep talking--where do I find these by name ?
Blessings

At one time Weatherby had a .22l.r. made by Anchutz. Is the currant one made by Anchutz?
There was a Savage Anchutz as well .So far I have not found a currant Savage Anchutz in Savage catalog.

The reports I have from others and a friend at the range I shoot is a problem with ejection of this model 64 (I Think) action that the Anshutz folks won't address.
This I-Talian thing is interesting though.
Weatherby is a pretty proud bunch---just for plinking.

William, sorry vie been in the hospital having a bypass surgery and getting my carotid artery cleared out. They just let me out for good behavior. My wife doesn't believe I behaved good as she says (she is a nurse) I rearly make a good patient. Anyhow I'm alive and thankful.

Don't confuse the weatherby xx11 I'm talking about with the current bolt guns. The model I'm referring to were either made in Italy or japan and were semi-auto. Came with clip or tube feed. These guns are long out of production.
 ;D regards,

Here is a photo of my old Weatherby XXII semi-auto my wife gave me for Christmas in 1977 and the new Weatherby XXII bolt action that I gave my grandson in 2009 for his 13th birthday. The one for my grandson is in .22 long rifle and was made by Anschutz. It looks pretty much the same as my Anschutz in .17 HMR except for the stock and trigger guard. Mine semi-auto was made in Japan. The two rifles rifles are about equal for accuracy, a little better than 1.0-inch at 50 yards with the good ammo. Both have 2-7X Leupold compact rimfire scopes and Talley rings.

I called Weatherby and was told the rifle is an Anchutz using a 64 barreled action and a 54 trigger with a Weatherby stock. This is a great price for an Anchutz. I am preparing to buy one.
