New Models
« on: December 15, 2010, 11:15:36 AM »
So I'm really excited about several of the new Savage models for '11.  The Lighweight Hunter looks great, plus it come in some standard action chamberings.  And it looks like Savage has embraced the .260.  The Bear Hunter looks interesting for some powerful chamberings.  There may be a new Savage in my safe quite soon. . . probably a 10 Predator in .260!

No idea on availability but that Predator may be on order after the first of the year.  If not that, then a Lightweight Hunter in 7mm-08.  It's good to know that at least one company is listening to hunters and shooters and making products that meet those demands.

If I did not have orders to move to Germany next spring a 16 FCSS in .260 would find it's way into my safe.

They will probably start hitting the stores after shot show in Jan. My local stores are saying sometime in Feb. The light weight hunter looks real good to me, shame it isn't a dbm, and yep the .260 in 1:8 is hard to beat, i guess i'll build my own light weight with the mcgowen 2lb .260 barrel i have and a axis action/stock combo. blue

I just picked up a Model 16 Classic SS w/fluted barrel in .223 in a wood stock. It's not in the catalog. It has the Accutrigger. Now I have to find a scope to mount on it.

I guess i better correct myself on the .260 lightweight hunter dbm, since it is listed as a dbm rifle. (I'm gonna blame it on old age, only excuse i got).

What i don't get is how come they went with a wooden stock instead of the normal plastic for a lightweight, the plastic would probably be 4-8ozs lighter. blue

I think the lightweight hunter is designed to go up against the Rem Model 7, so it has a wood stock.  I do think an accustock would certainly be a good choice for it, though.

The 260 is a fine rifle I think, but the one that caught my eye was the 250 savage in the weather warrior. I have a 25-06 in the older LE series and maybe I can swap it for a 250, that would be a sweet little all weather hunter. The 260 would be a bit much, as is my 25-06 for what I have in mind.
