How many you seen pickup trucks repowerd useing tractor engines, the first conversion took 4 months and cost $18K the last one took 7 days and cost $6K reports of Ford F150 going from 13Mpg to 40-50Mpg after conversion useing diesel 4 cylinder motors with superchargers/turbochargers/natural asperation.

Thanks for that post and link.  I have a older truck thats is about to hit the 25 year mark and was considering doing such a conversion since it wont have to be smogged anymore.  I am currently getting 17 mph but getting something in area of 30 plus would sure make for a worth while effort!

theres a guy local that has a 4 cyl cat in his truck. He says it makes lots of torque and gets good mpg but doesnt have much hp and it makes it a slug for passing.

What sucks is everywhere else on the planet people can drive ford rangers and toyota tacomas and the like with small diesel engines that get that kind of gas mileage, but not here oh no.  That would be too horrible for Americans to be able to get good mileage and decent towing power.

We've got to save the planet from global warming you know!  Seig heil, EPA!  I'm not an expert, but it would seem to me that the emissions from engines that get 2x to 3x the current mileage would offset engines that are a little cleaner.

So true, so sad and not only pickups but regular passenger cars as well. :(

Thanks for the correction.  It is not something I have used before, but it seemed appropriate.

lots of good stuff in the FARM SHOW paper on the conversions. lots use 4 cyl cummins, duetz etc.the articles are somewhat vauge but they do have a link or contact info to talk to the guys that did them.usually tho somewhere in the article there is a sentence like this...i got my buddy the lifelong machinest to make me a new flywheel and bellhouseing adapter plate that would normally cost 4200+buks or something like that.and yeah it does piss me off that detroit cant make a small truck or car with a deisel that can be sold in the US.i drove a 81 chevy luv deisel that got a constant 35 mpg and would pull my boat allbeit slowly and my gpa had a deisel ford tempo at one time that got aroun 50 mpg.i miss the 8o's!
