I'm in the process of building a welding gas tank/Florida type BB mortar.
Since I've gleened so much info. for it from here,
I figure- the least I can do in return is tell of my progress, pitfalls, observations, discoveries, etc., etc. as the build goes forward.
So, Here it begins:
Not only is this thing going to be a really cool project,
but I figure it will also 'fill the gap', or maybe just shorten the gap-
between my State Arms 'Big Bertha' chambered in .50BMG, and the 2 & 1/8" bore BP 'Ordanance Rifle' BP cannon.
Anyway:
The breech plug for the 'War of Northern Agression' (reproduction) Cohorn mortar came in today on the 'Little Brown Truck'.
It was shipped in from the un-explored Northern Territories- Somewhere,
WAY!!! WAY!!! closer to the Artic Circle than Texas is-
Mill-walk-ah, Mill-walk-me, Mill-walk-you,,,,,, I-da-hoe, You-da-ho,,,,,, somewhere like that, I forget......
Yawl probably know UPS requires everything to be 'properly packaged' in order for them to pay off on any damage claim.
So, for this solid piece of Steel: (Not too much risk of damage on this thing)
They wrapped it in 2 layers of duct tape, and put a self made, confuser generated shipping label on it.
-----------A piece of 6" dia. round stock 7" long.
Its the size of a old style, metal, grocery store variety, Folgers or Maxwell House coffee can,
but (only) 1" taller--- and weighs 57 !!! pounds.
When it was delivered to the shop--
I saw our regular UPS driver reach & grap it with one hand.......
Seeing that expression...... what a HOOT!!!! when it didn't budge off the shelf in his truck.
I wonder how many other package handelers in their system did the same thing all along it's journey?
