They don't make many like him
« on: December 18, 2010, 12:44:10 PM »

"The TURN will come when we entrust the conduct of our affairs to the men who understand that their first duty as public officials is to divest themselves of the power that they have been given. It will come when Americans, in hundreds of communities throughout the nation, decide to put the man in office who is pledged to enforce the Constitution and restore the Republic. Who will proclaim in a campaign speech: "I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel the old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is "needed" before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ "interests," I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can." [Barry Goldwater,

With the exception of Ron Paul and a small handful of others, people like him no longer exist in politics."JMHO"
Freedom Of Speech.....Once we lose it, every other freedom will follow.

NWHUNTER. Good  post. I remember him well, he scared a lot of folks. I remember they let us out of school to see him when they used to do whistle stops with the trains. I remember him waving from the back of the last car on the train. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

+1srussell. Truth scares politicos. Met him in Seattle when i was in construction back in my hod carrier days, he owned a beverage distribution company and we were working on an addition to expand his business. I liked him right off. I do remember my mom and dad not liking him when i was a kid, I'll have to ask mom for clarification on those thoughts.

I really liked Goldwater and in fact voted for him.  But--everything he said can be interpreted to mean something far different than some might expect.  The devil is always in the detail, so we must have specifics from any possible future candidate that may espouse Barry's philosophy.

I'm afraid our electorate has moved far beyond any chance of really turning things around, so until we lose the vote and get a dictator...we aren't that far from that right now, but with the polar opposite of what we're talking about.

I wish we could turn back the clock, but selectively.
