Cannon fuse that I can borrow or buy in the Houston area
« on: December 18, 2010, 06:58:04 PM »
I cannot find my package of cannon fuse from my last shoot.  Due to my procrastination OR hope that it will turn up, I cannot shoot my BB mortar for Christmas.  I was hoping someone in the Houston area, preferably North or even Spring or Conroe may have some extra that I purchase.  I only need 10 ft. of so.
It has gotten too late to order any and expect it arrive by Wed.
I would meet anyone, almost anywhere to acquire some.  Hmmm,  that makes me sound desperate.
Well if we have the shoot next weekend, I guess I am.

And thanks  even if you don't have any.

Carter's didn't have any?  I bought some there just a while back---1994.  I also bought some from Academy in  Humble, again in 1994.  I"m really surprised.

You might book mark this website for future reference.  http://www.cannonfuse.com/store/pc/home.asp

Wish I lived closer.  I am in Vicksburg, MS and I have plenty of extra.

You can make some black match in a couple days (counting drying time).

If you aren't afraid to stand next to it when you shoot it, I can tell you how to make a virtually instantaneous  quick match in about 2 minutes with nothing put 4F powder, a paper straw (or equivalent) and some scotch tape.

Before I got a roll of fuse, I was using an Estes rocket launch kit. It has like 30ft of wire and if you're lucky you can get two shots out of one ignitor. The only problem is to buy the ignitors, its like $6 for a pack of 6.

As a kid, we had that problem too.
One of my buddys saved those old #'1157' tail light bulbs when anybody changed one due to one of the filaments burning out.
We'd carefully break the bulb, salvage the good filiment wire, twist it onto our (old extension cord) detonator wire....

With the help of a reachable car's battery,,,,,, we had lift off!!!

Someone here suggested something that was easy and worked very well for me.  A broom straw coated with glue stick and 4F powder.  It's pretty fast though and I went back to fuse for the larger charges just to get a bit more distance for my ears.

I had a few old ones from when I still used the rockets. I had to buy a pack of ignitors when I was on vacation because the fuse hadn't arrived yet.

Thanks to everyone that responded.  Surprisingly, I stopped at a fireworks stand that just opened down the street, and they had "safety fuse".  So I bought a coupla packs of 15' each for $5.  Now that I have bought more fuse, I'm sure I will stumble over my other tomorrow.
Ya'll have a Very Merry Christmas!
