Just a slow saturday night
« on: December 18, 2010, 07:06:55 PM »
Nothing much going on to night so I went out and finished up inletting  friend Colin's Golf ball mortar.

I have been working on it off and on and have a good start.

I need to inlet it so the barrel is at 45 degrees and have a little ways to go.

Paint the barrel with a magic marker, tap the barrel a few times with a rawhide mallet and the high spots show right up.

Cut the black spots out with a chisel.

Two hours later, sucess.

Good night it's bed time for the old guy!

You did that in the basement (70°F) or the shop (outside temp 5°F)?

Not beech, White oak, no wait you're Beech, the carriage is white oak   ;D

No the basement is my lair, I worked out in the shop.  Plenty warm out in the shop as long as the wind doesn't come up and the temperature stays about zero.

That plug is the vent...socket head screw with with a 3/16 hole drilled through it
