How do you transport you Contender/Encore?
« on: December 19, 2010, 02:01:08 AM »
I have looked at the Thompson brand bags, looked at a few pistol cases, and am on the fence...any sugestions/reviews of your bag or case of choice?

Thanks!

Look over the yard sales and flee markets. I found a Samsonite 18X12, 5" deep hard side briefcase at a yard sale for $2 that even had the key for the locks. I cut some old pieces of carpet padding foam to stack inside it and my Contender with a 14" scoped barrel fits in it just fine and If I want to take other barrels along I just place a sheet of foam rubber padding between them and the pistol. Small hard side suitcases will also work great.

I have a Pelican case.  Very nice has weels if you don't want to carry and is Airport approved.  I put a lock on it and slide it under my bed with my stuff inside.

I found new life for my old TC pistol case.  The barrel is 16 1/4" but it will probably carry up to a 20" barrel.  Makes trips to the rifle range much more simple.

Allen makes a nice padded soft nylon Contender bag that has three separate zipper compartments.  It will hold a 14 inch gun with scope, as well as two more scoped barrels .  Thats how I carry my 30-30, .223, and 410.  One case does it all.

I have two plastic cases that were made for arrows.  Found some hard foam that fit in them.  Cut one hole to match the frame and 3 holes to match a 14" barrel with a scope.  With the barrel holes cut like that you can put a 10" or 14" barrel with or without a scope in each of the 3 barrel holes.  With the two cases I can get 2 frames and 6 barrels to the range fairly easy and that usually keeps me content for an afternoon.

I also have two of the retangular T/C cases that hold 2 barrels plus a frame with a barrel.  Also have the triangular T/C case that holds one frame and barrel and an extra barrel.  I really like these cases too, the hard cases just protect the guns better.

Good thing I have never been robbed going to the range. ;D  Of course since I have moved the range is in my backyard.

I wish I could find another one of these:

It will hold three scoped Contender pistols and/or several barrels or just about any length carbine if broken down.  As you can see it even holds a 16 inch carbine assembled with the action open.  I think it was made by Hoppes (note the number nine on the latch) but is discontinued.

I have a Doskosil case that is similar but much thicker and the lid flops open, not restrained like the Hoppes case.  I like the slimness of the Hoppes case much better.

I also have the Allen case. It will hold my scoped 16" SSK barrel on the frame in the center compartment, or hold it in one of the side barrel pockets. I also have the rifle version of the case for my carbine. I just wish the rifle case had 2 barrel pouches (like the handgun case), instead of one.
