How About a 6x45mm Handy
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:44:46 AM »
Been thinking about a new project and read a bit about this chamber. I know it's been around as a wildcat for a while. Then, I thought a handy chambered for it could be sweet. I have a .223 Rem barrel collecting dust in the closet.  Am I crazy thinking about this  ??? What do you think ???

I've got a 6x45 Superlight Handi that the fellas here on GBO generously bought and had Wayne York of Oregunsmithing(site sponsor) make for me, all I've killed is paper so far, but hope to change that next year! There are some targets shot on the last page of the thread below.

Thanks Guys!! I got it all ready to play today, I swapped the hammer out for an old low style, drilled and tapped it for a Win M94 hammer extension, and did a 3½lb trigger job, mounted the Weaver 4x32 shotgun scope in low Burris Zee rings on a modified Weaver #62 base. Total weight is 6lbs-6.5oz just as you see it. For now I put a Handi-Grip stock set on it just to see how I like it, it feels real "Handi" and comes to the shoulder real nice, but time will tell. One thing I noticed is the pistol grip is just right for carrying the rifle pointed down like a long barreled pistol, the short barrel is about 10" off the ground, I could almost shoot it one-handed!!  ;D

I think you can't go wrong with a handi. Of course if you were talking 45-70 it would be better. ;D

Again, very nice looking rifle Tim.

Wayne York did the work, so you can count on it being a shooter.  It is a lovely little rifle.  I hope Tim bags something with it next year.

I was thinking with the 22" barrel in the Handy that pretty little 6mm pill should get some real nice velocity numbers.  85gr Partitions at around 2800 fps and virtually no recoil. I am drooling...... :o
