T/C Encore carbine for silhouette

I was wondering if the Encore carbine is legal to use in rifle silhouette.  I am new to this shooting discipline, I went to a match today and was intrigued.  After the match, a couple participants let me try their rifles, and were very friendly and helpful.  I noticed that most of them were single loading their rifles, so I thought a single shot wouldnt be a handicap.  This main use of this rifle will be used for hunting, and I want to get into silhouette for good practice.  I can also hold this rifle steadier in the offhand position than any other rifle I have tried.  I will probably be getting one in 260 Rem.  Any info would be appreciated

Fine, choice. Will allow you to try the game and find out if you like it. If you don't, you have a decent low cost hunting rifle that if you want you can easily resell. Great, Silhouette Rifle? No, But there are a lot of other worse choices that cost alot more.

If you already have one go ahead and use it.  

If you have not purchased it yet I would suggest that you look into some other rifles.  The lock time of an Encore is absolutely too long compared to almost anything else.  You will not have as many choices of stocks for it suited to offhand shooting.  A break top action like the Encore is not as consistent as a bolt action (or even a falling block action).  The triggers on an Encore will never compare with any of the available triggers for a bolt action.  Scope mounting may also not be as simple.  

Visit with the people at the range and listen to their experiences.  You may even find a good deal on a used rifle that is ready to go.

I agree with Mongo. If you really think you want to get into the sport you should get a rifle better suited to the sport. All hunter-class legal silhouette rifles make decent hunting rifles but NOT the other way around. If you get a bolt gun and decide silhouette isn't for you, no harm done. If you get the Contender and stay with the sport you'll be shopping for a rifle early next year and the Contender will represent a nice chunk of change getting almost no use.

The encore can be a great choice. I have a encore 22 lr rimfire barrel match grade from bullberry of Utah. Shoots very very nice. I also sent all 4 of my actions to Mr. bullberry abd had the triggers detailed ....SWEET.....I would also have a encore high power silhouette if I didn't have so many remingtons. I called several different smiths for advice, they all said that the encore would with stand thousands and thousands of firings. But if you got one that didn't who cares the actions carry a life time warrantee anyway. So if anyone is looking at the encore for silhouette I would say HECK YA. The encore is alot like the ruger 10/22, there is a ton of after market stuff out there to accurize and beautify the cridder (if you so desire). I would do the same, and would have saved a whole lot of money over the yrs . go for it
