Two happy endings there-a man wrongfully convicted is free and the criminal that sentenced him was not reappointed.

I live in NY and belong to a gun club in NJ where I shoot my rifles. Although it is legal to transport them back and forth to the range I decided to get a NJ Fire Arms ID card in case I was stopped by some local dockel cop. The State police gave me the run around for 2 months just trying to find out who handled the applications. Finally I got an application and made an appointment to submit it in person. I was kept waiting for over an hour and finally a officer came out and took it. A month latter I went for finger printing. Never heard anything for 2 more months. After many calls I was told the prints didn't come out and I'd need to be finger printed again. Nothing for another month. After repeated calls I was transfered from office to office and on some occasions I was disconnected. I finally called the head of the police and within 24 hours I had my card.
The moral is even when you want to obey the law they make it tough.

Should have been a full pardon, no excuse.

I agree with the full pardon!
The man doesn't have to serve out his sentence, BUT, he still has a criminal record and can not legally own a gun anymore.
What Christie did was commendable, but not enough!
The man never should have been arrested in the first place, let alone convicted!   >:(

Are we sure about this?  I didn't see in the article whether or not his crime is considered a felony.  Some misdemeanors can carry sentences that long.

Not that he shouldn't have gotten a full pardon - I agree that he should - just thinking that without a felony conviction he could still own a gun.   That said, most potential employers check on criminal history and the like when applying for a job.  Any prison time that isn't completely expunged can severely damage your earning potential.  Many people think they can get their life back in order after coming out of prison, only to discover that they're not going to be able to get a job much above minimum wage because no one trusts anyone with a record.

I can't find the word felony anywhere, but my connection is running so slow I gave up quick. I couldn't find the word misdemeanor either. It might be in one of the videos in the first link.
I was repeating what I read on another forum when I posted about it being a felony. From the sound of the charges against him and a 7yr sentence, it sounds like felony to me. These links have more info. But again, I couldn't find the word felony and got tired of waiting on my connection. Either way, having a bogus weapons charge on his record is really messed up!
BTW, The second link gives info. on Christie and claims he is not pro-gun. He supported the assault weapons ban when he was a prosecuter.

I am quite sure ANY crime punishable by MORE than one year incarcerated if a Felony. I'm sure our resident attournies could enlighten us.

In WI, i believe a domestic, regardless of how serious the fight or who made initial contact, is a misdeameanor, but gun rights are taken away indefinatly.
I have a uncle that was in a fight with his girlfriend, the story goes, (she agrees this is the way it went) she slapped him and he slapped her back, she called the police and he lost his gun rights, forever. He used the hunt, not anymore, over 15 yrs ago. Sorry a little of topic just wanted to give  an example of a misdeam. having gun rights taken away.

That was a presidential order by Bill Clinton. Georg Bush could have rescinded it , but he did not! They act as though this was a law passed by congress, it is not the president can through it out if he wants to. Good luck finding one that will!

This guy ended up in a world of hurts over one little stupid phone call made by his "MOTHER" of all people.  Wonder if she realizes the damage she has done to her son.  Or even accepts the responsiability.

I say this because my mother reported me two differant times, (not realizing or caring the trouble she was causing for me).  To this day she feels she did the right thing, and wonders why me and my wife won't have anything to do with her.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I have thought about the "mom factor". Way to burn your baby boy!
So the guy is rightfully upset over being denied access to his child and good old mom calls the cops on him cause she thinks he might hurt himself??? You know that influenced law enforcement's decision making big time in this case. "THANKS MOM !!! My life isn't bad enough?"
Now he has to deal with all of this crap on top of everything else. She just made his life 100 times worse. If it was me, I would have a real hard time speaking to her again.
It must have been terrible for him to sit in jail for doing all the right things with his guns and thinking about his kid. Which brings up the fact that the mother of the kid will be able to use this against him too, to deny him visitation.
Soundslike this poor man has the all time worst luck with women, even his own mom!!
