38 Super 1911 Magazines
« on: December 22, 2010, 12:43:07 AM »
I found a source for MEG-GAR 9 round 38 Super magazines for $16.94 each.  These are new magazines in the MEG-GAR packages.  The location is AMERICANESUPERSTORE at americanesuperstore.com.  Out here in Tucson the cheapest I have found 38 Supeer mags is $30.00 new.  Hope this helps someone else. 8)

Chip McCormick makes 10 Round 38 Super Magazines.  They have worked well for me.

Brownells has 10 round 38 Super Magazines by Checkmate Industires for $21.99.   I don't know anything about that company.   One customer left a review and gave it 5 out of 5 Stars.   Just the same I wouldn't buy a bunch of them till I had tried one out.

I have four of the MEG-GAR mags and they have been flawless.  Do the 10 round mags extend below the grip frame?

What loads do you two prefer and what type of shooting do you do?  I'm piecing together parts for a 38 Super conversion to my 45 and I am interested in load development with bullet weights between 125/130 to 160 and clean burning powders.  Thanks.

With the FMJ 125 I use 5.8 grn of Unique.  With 157grn lead SWC I use 4.5 grn of Unique. 8)  I put up two target centers and shoot the lead on one and the FMJ's on the other.  I shoot 9 lead then 5 FMJ, repeating in this order through the ammo.  Keeps my barrel free of fouling. :D

The Chip Mccormick 10 Round magazines do not extend below the mag well except for the bumper pad which can be removed (held on with two screws).   I use my 38 super for IDPA where it is classified as an Enhances Service Pistol ESP.   Having only 9 rounds would be a competitive disadvantage.

Thanks for the respnce.  I have shot IDPA using a Hi Power 40 S&W, I haven't thought of using the 38 Super but if I do, I will pick up some of those Chip McCormic mags. 8)

I know in the 9mm 1911s the megars are the ones to buy and would guess it would be the same for the super.

I know I have never had a problem with MEG-GAR mags.  My best friend has Kimbers in 45ACP and MEG-GAR's are all he uses too. 8)
