Gift for a busy wife?
« on: December 23, 2010, 04:00:30 AM »
My wife's been really busy taking care of her seriously ill sister. The sister lives about 100 miles away. She spends every weekend there. I'm thinking something unromantic but practical like gasoline gift cards. Got a better idea? I'd like to know it. Seems like I should do something more interesting than that. Gasoline is expensive for us, so I know she'd appreciate it.

A gas card is practical and unromantic, that's for sure.  But sometimes you need to throw in something beyond that.  Maybe a day at a spa?  Or a make over (or whatever they call it) at a local salon - you know, all sorts of priming and preening, get her hair, face, and nails done.  Or maybe a few massage sessions.

You didn't hear this from me ;)

Try to take care of the things around the house without her asking and don't, I mean don't say something stupid like saying I did the dishes and swept etc.  All you will hear is well, I do that every day and she'll say you don't hear me talking about it, and I don't hear you telling me thank you for doing all the cleaning and cooking etc!  Now you've just wasted the good will have aggravated her too!  Think twice before you say anything!

Take her to dinner and a movie and ask her if there is anything else you can do for her.  Just tell her you will go with her to her sisters on the next trip and help around the house if there is something you can do there too.  That will make her happy ;)

Good luck,

Bulletstuffer

BRILLIANT!

Especially the part about helping out at the other end.

Bulletstuffer nailed it.

Such an offer, especially if it really comes from the heart, will be HUGH and greatly appreciated if my wife is typical.

Good call!
