125gr sjsp rem bullet in 357 with blue dot
« on: December 23, 2010, 09:37:55 AM »
I heard somewhere that this is an unsafe load, my lee loading manual has a blue dot recipe for a 125g jacketed bullet?  I want to cook some up and shoot but have that feeling. .  . so I thought I should ask some people.  I looked on the alliant page and didn't see a load for this bullet, nor did I find a warning against its use.  thanks again guys.

If you find a load in a published reloading manual, it should be safe..or was at the time it was tested with the lot of powder they were using!  Always follow their advice about starting low and working up.  have you checked out Alliant's web site?

I shot the 125 XTP with Blue Dot for a good while.  I would have to look for the data, but it worked very well.  As a matter of fact, it is what is in my Security-Six that is at the bedside.  It was vicious when shot into wet media...

I don't shoot jacket bullets any more as I most just shoot cast...

I too remember reading about the Blue Dot and 125's, but I don't know where or from whom...

Good-luck...BCB

Check out the Alliant Powder warning against using Blue Dot and 125 grain bullets http://www.alliantpowder.com/getting_started/safety/safety_notices.aspx.

Alliant also warns against using Blue Dot in ANY 41 Rem Mag load.

I hope this is helpful.
