10FCP W/choate tactical
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:23:24 PM »
Is anyone shooting one of these???  Savage model 10FCP DBM 308, 26" barrel with the choate tactical stock, full length alum. bedding.
I'd like to know how it is grouping for you and what factory round shoots best for you.  I am just breaking mine in and getting into figuring this out for myself.

Nobody has this gun???  How about with the HS Precision or McMillan stock??

I'd just like to hear how they are working out, if anyone is using them for comps, like F-class, and what you are generally finding accurate for rounds.

I just got a couple of boxes of the Gold medal 175 grainers to try out as well, the 168s are shooting well.  Fusions did alright, not the best though, and Winchester powermaxs were what I broke the barrel in with, so getting a feel for groups with these didn't really happen.

Figure I'll try out some of the black hills match ammo as well.  I'd like to shoot some f-class with this above and beyond animals.

it loves hornady 168 match with 45.2 BLC2 or 45.5 OF RAMSHOT BIG GAME . i Will  make 1 hole @ 100 and i shoot  have put 4
straight shots into a cigarette pack @ 500. i do have 1 NIGHTFORCE  5x22 on it so that makes it easier with my 52 year old eyes.

Well, in case anyone is looking at this gun, I'll post up what I've done so far.  I sent the Bushnell 6500 back today, going to be getting a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 to put on it, should be a better scope, fit my f class needs well.
I am shooting off a Harris 6-9 BRM bipod, using my fist under the back of the rifle for support, on a bench, these first are 100 yards.  Shooting Federal Gold Medal 168gr.
I had this gun skim bedded as well, first 3 shots back to the range were the 3 above this group, the 3 to the left of this group were shot at the very end of my session to see if it was tracking OK.
The Group measured is 4 shots, one on 24x, 16x, 10x, and 4.5 to check if changing power changed POI, like a previous scope I had.

Another 4 shot at 100

3 shot at 100

4 shot group at 200 yards, my first time shooting prone off a bipod, again using my hand for a back rest.

This is 400 yards, bipod on front, hand for back, on a bench.  3 or 4 shots, I can't remember, I believe it to be 4, 2 stacked in center right under the hole, 1 about 1/4" to the right, then the hit by the tip of my thumb.  Either way, this was a 3 or 4 shot group in about  1 1/2".
