marlin 1894c
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:30:20 PM »
Hey guys. Been lurking around here for awhile and finally got to registering. Just got a brand new marlin 1894c (w/ the deep cut grooves) in .357. Could you guys recomend asorce of cast bullets that performm reasonablly well in this rifle? They need to have a high metplate, feed reliable (don't mind modifying the carrier stop), be relativly heavy (160-170) and be relativly inexpensive. I was thing a fn nose type. I would like to use these in both 38 loadings and 357 loading. probably push em at a max of 1600 so am not thinking a gc would be needed. Thanks for the advice in advance. Pleasure to post here for the first time.

The deep cut rifling you mention is called BALLARD rifling.

I don't buy custom cast bullets. I find that with a lot of custom cast bullets, the lead is not fluxed and cleaned well.

One person showed me his revolver with the rifling worn away. He said he bought bullets from a local California company called "Hardcast Bullets." He said that he fired less than a thousand bullets through his revolver when the accuracy went away.

He had a box of the bullets left, we put them into the lead pot and melted them, the dross that came to the top was half sand. So, no bullets for me, that I didn't cast myself.

anyway, they  are beautiful, cost was a little high but they are worth it

For good quality cast bullets try beartoothbullets.com

They cast a lot of LBT bullets.
