baer:  Sterlings are not usually known for their reliability or longevity.  Some worked but many did not, or did not work well enough to be reliable.  I had one once and it would simply jam whenever it wanted.  I could not run a full magazine through it without a jam.  A buddy had one that ran perfectly while naother buddy had one that would double or triple on him at least once in every magazine (now that was fun..)

If your Sterling works, keep it clean and lightly lubed and don't use it much.  jmtcw.

Mine seems to shoot quite well. And since I only paid $75 for it I certainly can't complain.

the rimfire versions were prone to jamming,
.25 auto not too bad though.
Slightly above the Raven and Jennings quality wise.

Sterling Arms rented a section of the building from the company i use to work for. Yes they were known to jam a lot.
They also made a single shot like the Contender called the X-Caliber. If i remember right it was an infringement on TC's patent and they had to stop makeing them. Three times when they were there the clowns testing the jam o matics shot themselves. A friend of mine worked there. She told me these guys had the guns pointed down toward their legs. When they worked the slide the damn gun would fire. They went out of busines when a woman pulled her keys out of her purse. The gun came out too. It fell on the floor went off and shot her in the head. 1.6 million dollar law suit was the end of the company. The man that owned Sterling just passed away last week. $75 :o. When they were in production they sold for $54.

Didn't mean to burst your bubble. :(..   You ask so i told you what little i knew about them.
The dealer where i use to buy my reloading supplies sold Sterlings. I wanted one. He talked me out of it. He told me they were a hit and miss deal. If you by chance got a good one they were great little guns.
I ended up with a Jennings. Same with them. Hit and miss. Mine would work with anything i run through it. My wife loved shooting it. She wanted one of her own. I bought her a Jennings of her own. That damn thing would jam with any ammo she tried in it. Problem solved when i bought her a Beretta.
If you got a good Sterling for $75. I don't think you really did to bad.  ;D.  The only problem i can see is Sterling has been out of business for almost 24 years. Not sure where you would find parts for them if they were needed. ???
