I guess it all depends on whether you have a family or not. My wife tells me it's bad luck for a year if I leave her and my daughter (even if it's for just a minute) to hunt on Christmas. ;) Perhaps coyotes could be seen as a threat (fill in the threatened animal here) and therefore anytime is a fine time to hunt them.

Thanks, Dinny

I think you were thinking hunting. She just meant if you leave her and the baby AT ALL! :D

well i picked up a hunting buddy at 7:15 yesterday morning  we seen a yote on the way to our first set (a good sign)
were i shot a crow at 75 yrds with a 22-250 (poof) we then went to 3 more spots and seen nothing
we went to the river bottom and called in the first one i heard two shots he missed ??? ???
then off to another spot i seen one that must have got my wind as he was at a full run in the other direction  :'(
in the last set i had a small doe walk right to me to about 20 yrds i seen her in the scope and i told her merry christmas and she slowly walked off. so all that was shot is 1 measly crow  ;D ;D it was worth it to see it float away in the breeze. all in all it was a good day we both got a lot of exercise. now my hunting buddy is hooked on calling yotes and is begging to go again.            it was a MERRY CHRISTMAS hope everyone had one too.

Sounds like you both had a good day.

I was hoping to get my buddy hooked on calling but we didn't go the other day :(

Is that 22-250 a Handi and is that what you use for yotes? Thinking of getting a 22-250 Handi but don't remember very good reports on them. 22-250 does a good job on crows ;D

sorry to hear you did not get to go   if you called one in for him to pop i would bet he would be hooked :o ;D 8)
yes it is a handi  the one that started its life as a problem .204. h&r re barreled it to 22-250 and it is a tack driver with Winchester  45 grain.
yes it is my yote gun a dream to carry,  my other is a savage 112 in 22-250 but it is to heavy to carry for very long
the 223 is one im looking at new alot cheaper to shoot seance i dont reload yet.

Ron1 Thanks for the response. That's kinda my problem, I have 2 700 HBs in 22-250 but they are no good for calling. Thought of re-barrelling one but it shoots good and I'd want to re-stock and get a smaller scope ::)
I like the performance of the 250 but for calling I guess the 223 should be enough.
I have a superlite, a 24" HB, and now have 2 standard weights in 223. Superlite is nice for calling ;) It has killed a yote at 195 yds. that went about 20 yds. My fault! and DRT one at about 110 yds.
Had one sitting/watching me just in the edge of the woods at about 300+ yds once, then I wanted my 22-250. Would have been Lights out ;D Didn't take the shot.
Was looking at a new 22-250 Handi the other day so I'd have a complete factory reciever/barrel. Haven't went back yet.

Think I just need to get out and kill a couple with the 223 ;D
Hope this isn't hijacking the thread as Christmas is a year away now ;D

Sounds like your 22-250 Handi is the STANDARD 22" barrel that's driving tacks, Right? Thanks

Sounds like you are talking about Chistmas day events so how is that highjacking  ;) Besides that he told Rudolphs cousin merry Christmas  ;D

Does sound like  I need a 22-250 now or maybe my birthday in a few months.

Don't forget about my favorite varmint caliber the .243 Win. ;) Using the new Hornady Superformance Varmint 58gr V-Max ammo, I got just over 3900fps and outstanding accuracy.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, is your 243 a Handi? I got one last year but haven't got it to shoot like I think it should. Need to give it another try. I need to get some of them little bullets to try ;D I was hoping the 75gr. Vmax would shoot good for distance.
I've had good accuracy from Rem 700s in 250. I can't remember any outstanding reports on the 22-250 in Handi. Maybe try that search thing and see if that tells me anything. I should just rebarrel to a lighter contour the one 700 but it dots eyes ;)

Gonna dust off the bench now that the holidays and work have slowed a bit.

Lonnie, I've always been impressed with the performance of the 22-250. I thought H&R might go to the 1:9 twist for the longer bullets we will prob. be forced to use. I saw a new cba 250 the other day with the standard contour barrel that looked to be 24". Going back with a tape measure. It was standing by a 223 and looked to be 2" longer. It was not a superlite. I'd try a 24" stan. con. 1:9 :-*  Hi Rudolph ;D

You might have a good idea of selling skins on your new site Fleabay ;)

They are small and yes, So Handi ;D

I had my 77/22 Hornet standing by a 22" standard Handi and the Handi is still
2" shorter. That Hornet is a very small bolt gun. Sposed to be 20" but only about 18" of rifling.

223 & 243 are great rounds but since you don't reload YET the 223 would be less $ to shoot. I haven't found too many shops around here that have much of the lighter bullets in 243 and the ones I did find were pretty salty.

If your 250 shoots those factory loads so good ("I'd") stick with that and spend my money getting set up to reload, then you can get lots more Handis ;D

i do want to get into reloading   i want to shoot the varmint grenades at crows and wood chucks  ;D
but the ol lady has other ideas for me to do. i read in a thread on here that for about $200 i could be set up fairly well.
that would be sweet  ;D ;D well i got another day of calling and shooting planned so i better get off here and get loaded up. have a great day.

I modified that last post but computer went nuts and lost it.

Went something like just use what you have, you get out more to shoot yotes.
You don't spend time trying new loads and buying components. You get out there and do the real thing ;) Good Luck Today

My 243 is not a Handi, it's a Weatherby Super Predator Master. It likes the 75gr V-Maxes too. I have the same thought as you, shoot what works and don't focus on reloading during the prime season. That's why the Superformance Varmint has my vote of confidence and will be all I use until next summer when I decide to reload some.

Thanks, Dinny
