Savage Accu-trigger..........
« on: December 25, 2010, 04:42:36 PM »
I'm sure this  has been gone over before.  But wondering if those who own a savage with the accutrigger like or dislike
the trigger ?  If you get used to it is it an adjustment to go back to a rifle without an accutriger ?

I have found it to be no trouble at all, Very much like a reverse two stage with a light first stage. Switching to a standard set up doesn't bother me at all. It isn't as good as a premium trigger but not bad for a manufacturer to offer stock. My best, Guy

I agree with Guy Pike. I have never had a problem switching between the two.

I own both Accutrigger rifles and other brands, never had a problem with going from one trigger to the other, you can feel the difference the moment your finger touches it.

Its been a deal breaker for me so far. I have to admit that I am still "scared" of it.  I'll see a rifle I like but then won't want to buy it when I see the accutrigger.  Its probably contempt prior to investigation. I actually would probably love it.
Though taken from established manufacturers' sources and presumed to be safe please do not use any load that I have posted. Please reference Hogdon, Lyman, Speer and others as a source of data for your own use.

Well John...it ain't a Timney...but it also ain't bad.  Mines a bit gritty even though it is adjusted but then breaks cleanly.  I do think it is better than an unadjustedRem700 or a Ruger trigger.  Though all of my centerfires have Timneys, if I owned a Savage with this trigger, I'd leave it alone and that's saying alot.

They do make aftermarket triggers for Savages as well.  I know that SharpShooterSupply.com has them.

What type wrench do you need to adjust trigger?

Soli, the rifle comes with a little adjustment tool so you don't have to worry about it.  You do have to take off the stock to adjust it though.  The accutrigger is nice for a factory trigger and easy to adjust safely, I like mine.   Dave

I personally see no real advantage or disadvantage to the trigger. I have one on a 204 and it work fine for a carry rifle. I will not change it. I also would not take out a good trigger to put one in.

The little tools used to adjust the trigger can be bought online.

I have owned several savages with the accutrigger and wouldn't consider buying an older model savage without it.  The accu-trigger started something in the gun industry that the rest of the manufacturers are just now trying to catch up with.  My buddy just bought a Remington SPS Tactical and it's got the new trigger in it and it's a fine trigger, but it came about as a result of the savage accu-trigger.

I've shot the standard accutrigger and the target model accutrigger (red blade in trigger instead of the stainless one), timney drop in triggers, rock river two stage triggers, mil-spec and a few other triggers and for me I like the regular old accutrigger as much if not more than any of the rest.  Last night I put a different scope on one of my savages and dry fired it a couple times.  The rifle has almost 2000 rounds through it and the trigger on it is still simply outstanding

I really like the trigger. Mine is about two years old. It breaks really clean with no grit or creep. I do not have any difficulty switching to other triggers. As mentioned above it revolutionized triggers in production guns and is causing all makers to improve triggers or be left behind.

The accu-trigger doesn't work for me. I like to put the tip of my finger on the corner of a well asjusted trigger, not wrap my whole finger around the trigger.

I don't wrap my finger either.  The AccuTrigger forces you to pull straight back, i.e. use proper trigger technique, rather than pushing it to one side or the other.  Pad of the trigger finger on the blade, take up the slack, think about firing and it does.

Thats alot to think about just to fire and what about it decocking if you don't do it just right? Ya dangerous game or even a nice buck will just wait for a recock. I think the gun lawyers made this trigger. If I'am accurate then my technique is proper.

I decocked it once the first day I had it out.  After that, never a problem.  No "thought" involved anymore.  Train the muscles and they do it all for you without conscious thought.  If you're pulling/pushing it off to the side badly enough that it decocks, you would have missed anyway.  I wouldn't take a push feed bolt gun after dangerous game anyway, but I wouldn't hesitate to take one of my several Savages with Accu-triggers out for a normal big game hunt.
