Unsafe Muzzleloader Debate
« on: December 27, 2010, 08:55:44 PM »
Hey guys,

I know this is a dead horse situation but I remember alot of this hotly debated topic. I ran across this website on another forum...cvaguncases.com and thought I would post it so you guys can check it out. I do not have an opinion either way on this, I own a traditions gun and never had any issues with it. There are photos of the guns and injury photos as well. Worth taking a look at I think.

thats wakeman and his ambulance chasing friend.  I dont let any of those stories or pictures scare me. Once you spend a couple hours reading some cases, you'll find out that a good deal of rifles were loaded with smokeless powder or a short started bullet caused the problem.

This guy works for savage and the person employing him was actually injured by a recall cva.

Recall guns have the last 2 digits ending in 95 - 96 in the serial number.

its basically scare tactics so he can put his arm around your shoulder, show you the guns for sale on his link that he supports and gets paid by.

Notice  that he used to review rifles for CVA.   If he thought they were that dangerous, he wouldnt be shooting them and then posting the reviews!

I do a LOT of shooting that the average person will not do in a lifetime with their muzzleloader,  5,000 rounds this year alone with an assortment of cva's. My new Optima has been the main work horse this year and never once in all these years have i come across a safety issue.

X2   Wakeman has rave reviews for the company that is paying him the best at the moment.

Perhaps.  But I have personally seen one CVA with a one half inch wide by seven inch long chunk blown out of the barrel.  A good friend of mine was bench shooting 100 grain loads of Triple seven with a 250 grain XTP sabot.  Had he had his fingers wrapped around as normal, he'd probably be missing a few.  Never seen any of this Wakemans posts but it doesn't matter to me, I'll stick with my Knight inline with 90 grain loads.  I like my fingers where they are.

If you do a search there are numerous reports of all the major muzzleloaders blowing up. If you try hard enough or screw up enough they will all blow. Sounds like a short seated bullet to me.

new here so I haven't heard of this debate, and feeling to lazy to search it.  I have a CVA eclipse magnum and my step-dad has a bolt action and a break open CVA M/l and have been using them for  3 or 4 years now.  I have over 100 rnds through mine,  even some 150 grn magnum loads with out a problem.

I didnt see this post until today, but the link is to the rant I went on a few days ago after coming across the site you listed and a couple others. I cant stand the in-fighting and bickering that goes on surrounding muzzleloading on the web. You have to think the average age of the muzzleloading and blackpowder crowd has to be up in the 40's? Cant we all act like adults by that age and not air the dirty laundry for the whole world to see? If I didnt get bit by the muzzleloading bug before I read some of the crap that is out there I might have changed my mind.
