Krieghoff drilling scope mount
« on: December 28, 2010, 07:32:41 AM »
Good day to all my fellow GB drilling friends.

I bought a used but excellent mechanically krieghoff drilling a couple of years ago. It has a old zeiss scope in claw mounts and the wrist on the stock had been broken & a good repair done on it. I want to update the scope & have the forearm refinished and both it & the butstock recheckered.

Any ideas on the proper scope and who would be good to do the work?

Regards,

JJ Perodeau at Champlin Arms...  Google that, and you will easily find him...  He can do "anything and everything" to do with drillings and double rifles ect...

BTW, there's an article about JJ in (i think) Shooting Sportsman magazine this month.  It's pretty good!

First DM is very picky about his drilling and I dont believe he would have just any drilling smith work on this drilling.  I understand there are 5-6 drilling smiths in the USA.

JJ is working on 2 of my drillings, opening the chokes, expanding the shotgun chambers for 2 3/4 inch shells and putting on scopes.

Interestingly my scope choices have been limited to the location of the claw bases.  Having said that, what is the rifle caliber and what power is the scope is on it now?

Dougk, I'm in anchorage on medical leave and I don't remember all the details on the scope on the drilling it's a hendersholt (spelling) variable 2-7 I think. It's a 50s scope I believe. It about 32mm in the front I would guess. It's clear but I haven't tried it in wet conditions to trust it's integrity.

When I get back home I'll get more info.

Byron,
I am adding Leupold scopes to the 2 drillings.  One is a Vari X-III 2.5-8 the other is a VX-III 1-5.  The key decision was that they fit and were moderately priced.  The Zeiss scopes that would have been comparable where 4x's more.

Are you saying a Zeiss 3x9x40 is 4 times more $$ than a Leupold 2.5x8??

I have both, and i can tell you what one is easily better in low light conditions!

Oh contrare bonswear....

The Conquest is not 4x more than the Leupold, the Diavari is...

The smallest Conquest is 3-9x40 and over 13 inches.  Which is alot bigger then the 1.5-5x20 @ 9 inches and the 2.5-8x36.  Especialy when trying to use the existing claw mount bases.

I like the scope.  Its a Zeiss Davari 2.5-10x56.  I am going to send the scope back to Germany for some warranty repairs, the white magnification numbers have worn off  :o  and Zeiss agreed to fix that  ;D
