Trying to decide on a Henry .22
« on: December 29, 2010, 04:06:31 PM »
Well..I got permission from the boss (my wife) to buy another gun and I have decided on a Henry.  I don't want a goldenboy, I just want a standard blued reciever model.  I just can't decide if I want the H001 or the octagon barrel.  I just want it to plink with and maybe carry in the woods when I am out working on the trail.  The thing I don't know if I like about the H001 is the sights.  Does anyone make different sights for that model?  How is the balance of the longer and heavier octagon barrel compared to the shorter round barrel?  I have seen and handled both models but not side by side at the same store.  I just don't want to get one and wish I had bought the other.  I am going price shopping again tomorrow to some other shops around.  So far Dicks Sporting Goods is the best price...$279 for the H001 and $339 for the octagon but they don't have either one in stock.  Any help and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

It's your move but I like the H001T Octagon model. I hate to say it but Walmart has them $20-$30 less for the H001T and their distributor has them in stock. Enough savings to buy a brick to play with  :)

I agree, go with the octagone barrel, it's a little more money but in the long run you won't kick yourself in the butt for not buying one. Great little rifle and very smooth action.

I have been kinda leaning towards the octagon.  I wish my local walmarts still sold guns...I have a $40 gift card from my union at work that I could use towards it.

Well...I went shopping today and came home with one....got the octagon barrel but got it in .22mag.  Local shop had a used one, got it for $350 out the door.  Brought it out and put a few rounds thru it.  It should pair up good with my Ruger single six out in the woods.  Is there any way to find out what year of manufacture it is?
