Floating the forend of an Encore
« on: December 15, 2003, 07:24:37 AM »
I have been reading here for quite some time but just joined, Howdy.  I was tinkering with my Encore in .270 Winchester over the weekend with some puzzling results.  My gun with a factory 24" barrel will shoot close to 1 MOA with factory Winchester BST's.  I read about people putting the o-rings between the screws and the barrel to "float" it.  I tried it and shot a 4 shot group, the group measured 4 5/8" with noticeable vertical stringing.  Took the o-rings out and fired 3 shots into 1 1/8", two of which were in the same hole.  I made a small scope adjustment and fired one more shot which went exactly where I told it to.  I guess mine doesn't like the o-rings, nevertheless I am happy with the accuracy the way it is.  Any idea why this happened?  After deer season I am going to develop a load and see what it does.

Can you add one thin stainless washer without getting a longer screw?

Fender Washers

I used fender washers and fashioned them into shape on a round rod. Then
I took the small washers out of the forearm and countersunk the holes
another 1/16", the thickness of the fender washers. Then VVCG came
out with their forearm hanger with matching forearms, and I said the heck
with trying to rig the original myself.
