I think I like this 4 5/8" 44 spl. Spent some more time shooting yesterday, decided to sight in for the 250 gr. Keith Mt. Baldy bullets.
I was shooting from a bench with my wrists on sand bags to get it centered and still have the gun free to buck. After getting it centered for those loads I decided to bury the frame in the bags to see what it could do without me. I shot a 1" 3 round group center to center with gun solid in the bags so it could not move. It hit the target in a completely different place using the bags, but I guess the holes in the gun must be the right size for those bullets. I then shot it off hand a lot after that. I sighted it in for dead on at 50 meters, shoots a tad high at 25 meters which is fine, at 100 meters had to either hold over or raise the front sight to hit the pig.
Had big ideas at first about spending money on this to make it special/fancy, I'm going to pretty much leave it alone except for having someone fit a super blackhawk wide spur hammer and a trigger job. I have the feeling this is going to get used a lot and lose some bluing, I think it's going to be a working gun and not for lookin at. All in all I'm pretty happy with this Ruger, it has a couple of flaws if you look close at fit and finish, but it does what it's supposed to do. I have some Grips that Cary Chapman made that are real nice walnut, have another Simply Rugged holster coming for it. 45 Colt has always been one of my favorites, but it's been taking a back seat to this 44 spl thing for a while now.
