Sand mounds for k-9's
« on: December 15, 2003, 08:04:17 AM »
Came across a sand mound in the middle of a bean field the other day.  Lots of yote sign and some fox sign.  Just wondered how others would set this up.  The mound is about 3 ft high and is about 15 ft long.
Thanks for your input.

I love places like that Tim and so do canines love them.  They will come out of nowhere to get their feet in the sand.  Generally, I simply make some dirt hole sets around the close perimeter of a sand spot like that and they always work for me. Any set should work when one knows exactly where the animal is going to be and we know they will get their feet in the sand.  Ace

Somehow I knew you were gonna say that Asa!  And thats exactly what I did.  Put in three dirtholes and am hoping for the best.  Maybe I will catch my first 'tripple'!

Originally i wanted to put in a flat set with some 'foreign' scat and urine, on top of the mound but would have had trouble staking as well as covering my tracks to put the set in.

Thanks

Hey Tim , hows this for sandmound sets ? Although , next time I will make dirtholes at the base and leave it at that . I did manage to get one yote on top and one in a hole at the bottom . Also had a pullout on top .
