Question .....
« on: December 31, 2010, 09:03:56 AM »
I have a NEF huntsman 50 cal muzzleloader, with NT before the serial number. Is this SB1 or SB2.

Wanting to purchase a rifle barrel, wondering if this receiver will work.

SB1 unless it was a combo with a centerfire rifle barrel at one time, only 357 and 44 mag barrels can be fitted to the SB1 frame, but unless H&R changes their policy on it, they won't fit any firearm barrels to a Huntsman frame unless a copy of the 4473 is provided with the accessory barrel order. Of course that wouldn't apply to fitting a second hand barrel yourself.

CW, you are correct, if the Huntsman has been registered with form #4473 with the BATF.  What I was saying is that with out the #4473 form, we can only fit muzzle loader barrels to a Huntsman frame. The Huntsman is not a legal firearm unless it is registered with the BATF. So anyone sending in a Huntsman frame for other than muzzle loader barrels must also send a copy of their BATF registration or we will refuse to install other barrels for legal reasons.

You can't go by serial number.  Read the FAQs on the stickies at the top of the H&R Centerfire page.  All the info is there.  Mine's on a SB1, but I'll change that soon.  The Huntsman doesn't need to be on a SB2, but I prefer them.  If it was bought new as a Huntsman, I'd bet it is SB1.  You can put the .357 and .44 mag barrels on that one and that's all, other than shotguns.

Good luck, Happy New Year

Thank you, Tim.  Sometimes I don't know what to do about you ::)  You are remarkable.  I'm staying home tonight and leaving the drinking to the amateurs and reading a good book.
