Who mourns for the cars?
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:23:23 AM »
Every time I see pictures of terrorist bomb sites there is the wreckage of a bombed  car. French rioters burn cars in the streets. Of course the point is the human effect, but I feel bad tha perfectly good car are targeted too.

In the French case, I realize that the cars are probably pugeots and deserve to be burned, but it is still sad that people would resort to such behavior.

Yea and I would have a hard time feeling sad for Volvos, just too ugly to evoke any sympathy, and those ugly European trucks.

I guess I'm OK with blowing up foreign excuses for autos, but they better be careful if they start blowing up 57 Chevys.

I'm thinking the owners offer those cars up for sacrifice.

Say you were facing the cost of a new transmission; you go buy replacement cost insurance on your car, then take a out an ad in the terrorist section of the classifieds that says "if anyone finds a blue Volvo (license plate X) with the keys on the right rear tire, please call me".

average people in other countries dont really veiw their cars as we do. a lot of americans take pride in their vehicle even if they dont in anything else in their life.overseas a car is just a ugly, often dirty and rusty form of transportation that they take no pride in, thats why they dont mind blowing them up all the time!

I think you are right on that.
When have you ever heard of a terroist threat against the General Lee?
Except maybe by Boss Hogg, but he is really more of an opportunistic thug than a terrorist.
Of course, the General Lee ever being exploded is a silly premise. In real life, the General Lee would just jump over any explosion.

What I think about is the families that lose their transportation.  Not the car holding the bomb, but the other cars in the area that get burned or damaged in the blast.  It takes families many years to save up enough to buy a family car.  Then the terrioist take it away in one blast.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I kind of see your point. I cringe when I see a classic muscle car get destroyed in a movie.

that's what you get when there are a lot of "undocumented explosives engineers" running loose ! :D ;D

Unfortunately, sometimes it looks like govt officials are in cahoots with the bombers.  In that mass murder by car bomb at the church in Alexandria, it looks like the security guards let the bomb carrying car park in the cordoned off zone...then left an hour before the explosion. They were due to 'guard' much longer.  It appears they have some exceptionally vicious people there.

The 57 Chevy would CONTAIN the explosion and be drivable thereafter.  It is not a suitable "sheet metal and tin box" within which to accentuate an explosive charge.   ;D

When we got married my wife was the owner of  a Datsun F-10. When we sold it she took me by the arm as if to steady herself. She said I really hate to see that little  car go. We've been through so much together. Sorry, I couldn't relate.
