Will you use the open sights of the 1A? My RSI has open sights which I considered necessary to complete the mannlicher look. But this year I decided to give the open sights a try and enjoyed the way it carried without a scope and shot a deer at 80 yards with it. If you would not use the open sights in a 204, go for the 1B.
A downside of the 1A in 204 would the sling attached to the barrel is supposed to be less than ideal for accuracy.
An upside for the 1A is that they do not list them in 204 now, so its kind of unique.

For how I imagine you would use a 204, the 1B seems the most logical answer.

Well 1Longbow,  I would go with the #1"A" for as I recall, they were a bit shorter then the "B".

Now, without looking at my old RUGER catalog, I could end up wrong, I think that would still be my direction.

Over the years, I've had mostly #1 "B", but once I had a #1 with the Alexander Henry forend AND cured that ugly groove with a nice piece of contrasting walnut or ebony, I really like that slender forend!!!!!!!!  way better then the beavertail of the "B" model.

Now I wouldn't turn down a #1 in most any style, but IF I HAD A CHOICE ------------------------

Love the #1's but the sightless #1B's are my least favorite of them all.  I simply prefer the sights and the over all look & style of the A, S and H models.   However, with the .204 chambering, it's likely more of a longer range shooter so I'd not be too overly concerned with having sights on that chambering.  On the other hand, it's not a chambering I'd consider anyways.
Just because they have them doesn't mean you gotta buy one.  I've passed on #1's before only to then have the $ when one I really wanted became available.

Love the Ruger No.1.  In .204 ruger - the choice comes down to 2 things: intended use, and personal preference.

The No.1A with 22" barrel is lighter and easier to manuever in brush, treestand, etc.
The No.1B with 26" barrel is heavier but is a better choice if Varmint hunting at distance.

Either way - you can't go wrong with either one - just handle each of them and pick the one that feels better and/or suits your purpose.  Good Luck  Dan3

The 26" barrel may have it with velocity, but I had a #1B - 22/250 which someone had cut to 22".

It was never wanting in the varmit fields, and because of the 22" barrel was a real joy to carry!!!

...a #1B - 22/250 which someone had cut to 22"...

Hmmm...after totin' my 1-V over a mountain and back last week, a shorty B sounds good.

Modify my answer to "get the B, and if its too heavy, cut it down."
